| TR:Cedar Point 8/14. Another wonderfull day at Cedar Point. I went on a Sunday thinking that most people would skip because of the possible rain. We arrived at the park around 10:00 and rushed over to Top Thrill Dragster which only had an hour wait. I like the music they play while you are in the queue and it fits in with the racing theme. I got on the ride close to 10:15 and we grabbed middle seat. There was nothing to grab on to which made the ride seem scarier. The sound effects really add to the ride. The launch seems the fastest right when it begins and it felt like we lost speed as we went up. This time I opened my eyes to see Millennium Force below me. Last time I rode at night and I liked it way better. I managed to put my hands up on the way down and I had a great picture. I thought this was one of the most intense rides I have ever ridden, although I didn't like the twist on the drop. Overall I give it a 7.5/10. I understand they didn't have room to expand this ride, but it is way to short to be in my top ten.
Me and my Buddy grabbed a few orders of Chili Cheese fries at Happy Friar and snagged us a few rides on Gemini. My friend challenged me to a race. Whoever wins gets to choose the next ride of the day, so he got in car 3, row 2 on red and I grabbed front seat on blue side and off we went. Luckily for me, some kid on his side stuck his hand out of the car while it was moving which gave us a commanding lead. We are about 1/4 up the lift hill right when they are about to leave the station. The red seems like it climbs faster than blue and they were on our tail. I go flying down the hill and im going around the first turn when I see his side pull up in front of us as we go over the two camelbacks. The 5th drop has one of the best head choppers ever. This is my second favorite Arrow coaster and I give it a 9/10. It is really smooth in the front seat.
Wouldn't you know it, amazingly he won the race and his choice for next ride was Mantis. It was about 11:00 when we headed over there, so I figured that MF's freeway would be open. It turns out that they aren't having freeway anymore for this season. That was a big dissapointment for me and my friend. After a quick glance at the line for Mantis we decided to skip a 1 1/2 hour wait and head on over to Magnum. The wait was 1/4 hour as usual and we grabbed back seat. The first three drops are some of the best on any coaster. I really like how the second drop curves to the left and yanks you down into a tunnel. It makes these cool sounds when you go through the tunnels which I think add alot to the ride. This will sound weird to many of you, but I love the roughness of coasters. Magnum just has those bucking bronco slam you into the lapbar -gs and I love it. The only thing I despise of this ride is the brake section before the turnaround. I really don't know why they are there but they slow the train down alot. I didn't really like the additude of the ride ops. They seem to have no emotion on their faces. They don't even ask how the ride was, which is what I love about returning to the station. I give it a 9.5/10 because of the ride ops and the brake section.
After that we went over to Wicked Twister. I like the very last row because you get most of the twist on the back side of the ride. The launch isn't as intense as TTD, but it is still my favortie launched coaster. 7.5/10
We went on alot of the smaller rides as the lines started to fill up. Iron Dragon, Wildcat and Mine Ride. I thought these were all tame rides, but still pretty fun. Wildcat is the best of the three, because is doesn't have 2 lift hills.(Way to go Arrow!)
It was around 4:00 and we see a 1/4 hour wait for Disaster Transport which is my friend's favortie roller coaster. This is CP's best themed coaster and I think it is a great ride. They could make it better by making it completely dark. Alot of people would dissagree with me saying that it is a great ride though, but I guess we all have our opinions. 7/10.
Were are starving at this time and headed on over to Coasters for my usuall cheeseburger and french fries. Yes, Johnny Rockets has dancing employes and music, but when it comes to food, they have nothing on this place. Coaster's shakes are the best around. 9 bucks for a burger and fries is pretty expensive though.
We then rode the Scrambler about 4 times in a row and went for Maxair. This is my favortie non coaster ride. I make sure I ride this each time I come to Cedar Point. If you ever visit, this is a must ride.
We then rode Power Tower, Whitches Wheel, Troika, Demon Drop, Gemini and Magnum again. I prefer the launch side on PT, but most of the time I see a longer line in the drop side. I will admit that you do get the best view of Cedar Point from the drop side of PT. Demon Drop is one of the best drop rides I have ridden. For some reason I always get stuck riding with some old woman who screams in my ear. Other than that, It's awesome!
We rode both Raptor and Mantis right after Demon Drop and both had 1 hour waits. Raptor is the best inverted coaster I have ever ridden. It is also one of the smoothest roller coasters around. The first drop really takes your breath away as you go right into a gaint verticle loop standing at 99 feet tall. They say your speed is 57 MPH but I still don't know how this could be. I guess inverted coasters just feel faster than regular coasters. The double helix squashes you into your seat with so many gs. Raptor is really showing no signs of ageing. For a 10 year old coaster it is very smooth. I give it 8/10. Mantis is the exact opposite of Raptor, which is rough. I don't like roughness on coasters with OTSR. Mantis does have a very nice first drop and the first two inversions are great, but they provide alot of headbanging. The sudden whips and turns throw your head into the restraint giving you a migrane. I guess this is expected out of standup coasters. Mantis is the best standup I have been on, although I've only ridden 3. Mantis gets a 7.5/10
I decided to skip Mean Streak due to the 1/2 hour wait which isn't really worth it. We went on Millennium Force at around 10:00 to get my first night ride. I think the scariest part of the ride is the climb of the hill as it is very steep and the lake is right next to you. The first dorp is still one of the best on any steel coaster and the speed coming around the turn makes snot come out of your nose! I got hit with tons of bugs which I would guess happens alot around night time. I had to put my hands in front of my face just to stay alive! It was so hard to enjoy the ride but I managed to put them down going over the 3rd hill. My favortie part of the ride is the bunny hill near the loading platform which provides the only air on the entire ride. Night rides on MF are great, much better than regular rides. I give it a 9/10.
We watched a little bit of the light show before it was time to go at 11. This was one of the best trips I had at Cedar Point. I hope to visit Soak City next week.
