Hotel Blacklist

After some experiences I've had, I talked with Steven and got the green light for a hotel blacklist. If you've had a bad experience (the continental breakfast sucked or being denied a room because you're under 21 does NOT count) at a hotel, post it here. This will help fellow enthusiasts in planning their park vacations and keep them from getting stuck in the same situation as you did.

Here is the manner in which you shall post about a poor hotel experience.

Hotel Name
Location
Date of Visit
Nearest Park to Hotel
Reason why the hotel was unsatisfactory
Additional Comments

Here is one bad experience I had

Hotel: Country Hearth Inn
Location: Williamsburg, VA
Date: Late March 2004
Nearest Park: Busch Gardens Williamsburg (obviously)
Reasons: Beds were stiff as boards, and according to the hotel rules, BGW and Splash Country guests are not entitled to pool privileges and continental breakfast. I will post a picture of the rules I took when my computer arrives with my moving van.
Additional Comments: This place looks charming, and is decent priced. Don't be fooled; you're better off staying at a Ramada or Holiday Inn.

AAAA Royal Motel
Closest to Marineland, Niagra Falls, Ontario

I stayed there last weekend with some friends for some drunken gambling at the casino. I can't say which was best, the four channels on the TV, no A/C, barely any light in the rooms, the hookers across the street, and I could go on.

Don't stay there. Sleep in your car.

How can they tell if you're a BGW/ Splash Country USA guest? Interrogate you?

Hotel Name: Quality Inn
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Date of Visit: 9/14/99
Nearest Park to Hotel: SFoG
Reason: I was forced to stay here due to the fact it was the week Hurricane Floyd was expected to hit Florida and many people fled to Atlanta, taking up hotel rooms. The problem with this hotel was it's location. It was located across the interstate from Atlanta International Airport. It was also sitting in the path of one of the runways. Every 30 seconds there was an airplane flying in and out over the hotel. It was impossible to sleep with what sounded like World War III going on outside. Definetly not the best location for a hotel.

Hotel Name - Days Inn @ SixFlags
Location - GA
Date of Visit - July 23rd - 25th
Nearest Park to Hotel - SFOG
Reason why the hotel was unsatisfactory - Website said it was next to SFOG.. it was really about 10min walk... food they gave was very bad... the bathroom doors didnt lock or even have locks on them... everynight when a thunderstorm rolled in the TV went out... Umm oh yeah! The cleaners were very slow... I left my room at 8.30am and when i went back for my mid-day drop off of stuff around 4-5pm the room still had not been cleaned.... but the worst thing EVER about this hotel.... after my first trip to sfog and all the fun i had had... i walked into the bathroom to use the sink.. and when i went to grab the towel... it had CRAP ON IT! and i mean like someone had pooped on it... it was just the sickst thing i had ever seen in a hotel room ever! its like they didnt even try and clean the room...
also the AC dripped alot of water... but i didnt know till i got up and put my wet shoes on...
Additional Comments SFOG has maybe 2 other hotels 'next' to it.. use one of them....

I agree it a crappy hotel but in reality it is a shorter walk than that. I would say 5 minutes tops. But you are very correct in the utter disgusting hotel in which I stayed at last Tuesday as well. Actually I've stayed there 4 times but now there is a fence that makes you walk around to the park. It used to have an entrance directly to the park's lot and it took mere 2 minutes to walk from the gate to the hotel, for daquiri's and a smoke break So I will not be back to this one again. Oh man, crap on a towel! I am speechless. Wow
Great idea for a thread BryanWood, I look forward to reading the rules from nazi hotel.

Days Inn SFOG

Amazing!...We stayed at a Days Inn near SFOG in the mid-70's when I was a kid. I don't know whether it was the same one but it was the closest one to SFOG then and our first Days Inn experience....also our last...it was disgusting,: dirty...... lots of attitude.... and stupid rules, hard to believe they haven't improved in 30 years, but then again....maybe not

Its not a 10 min walk. I stayed at the newer Wingate Inn next to it. It was more of a 5 min walk. But when I was there, that Days Inn looked ghetto, like all of them.

I have 2 stories:

1. hotel: ABC motel
location: fremont, OH (30-40 mins from CP)
stayed: july 15 & 16, 2001
nearest park: CP
this was our first visit to both OH & CP so we didn't know anything. ooh and we couldn't go to sandusky b/c we were too tired... driving straight from GA to OH in 1 day. the worst part about this hotel was that they had blankets & pillowcases with a hospital logo on them. we really didn't want to know if they were used or not.

2. hotel: diamond inn
location: houston TX
stay: october 13, 2001
nearest park: SFAW

we lived in houston for 8-ish years, but when we went back for a short visit we had to stay somewhere in the area where we used to live (which has turned kinda bad) and there were only 2 hotels in the area, one which we left b/c we saw what looked like a drug deal going on and this one. we didn't know about what this one had though... it's a hooker hotel... each room had a blacklight, disco ball, and boom box (the boom box & blacklight were bolted to the furniture). when you turned on the blacklight you could see pictures on the walls, hearts that said things like "surprise me", a silhouette of a woman, cupids, stars on the ceiling... and there were some spots on the comforter that glowed in the blacklight too... i don't wanna know about those... and there was a mirror on the wall right next to the bed. we all felt so :-\:-\!! here... eww....

Yeah, I wondered the same thing. I went through with it anyways, and got away with it. The owner was a moron.

Isnt it Water Country USA?

Hotel Buena Vista
Orlando
Week of Christmas
Disney World

Dont get me wrong, this hotel is a luxurious one, and I would stay there again, I just want to warn everyone that the furniture is very fragile. We broke a lamp when we turned it on, The table had to be supported because a leg was short, The AC kept falling off the hooks. It's a nice place, but you gotta be very careful. Oh and It's very noisy since it's next to Planet Hollywood (Shopping Center)

Hampton Inn
Across from Kings Island
Ohio
June of 2000.

Really bad service,Staff and the room was in no way clean. It took forever to check in and the elevators were out of service. There were food crumbs on the floor of the room and it looked as if the beds were not changed in a few days.

Yeah, that hot heat stuff... it'll really get you if you aren't used to it. And really, a five minute walk, with no water? Are you even alive? I mean, Atlanta is one of the most humid cities in the US.. it'll dehydrate you in no time. Let me just say that you're lucky you didn't get hit with cold heat. That's the kind of incoherent weather pattern that'll make a 5min walk feel like a 15min walk.

What's so bad about that? They just don't want random people fromt he park using the facilities if they're not staying there.

Correct. This is a rule for guests of the hotel who visit one of those parks.

Well, how would the able to tell you're going to eaither place? What would be their reason for such a ban?

It sounds to me that they don't want guests from those two places coming in to use their facilities, which is understandable and that's how all hotels are anyway. I don't think it's pertains to guests staying there, it's just being misread.

Nope, it's definitely for guests of the hotel who want to go to BGW or Water Country. Here's attached proof:

So you get punished for being a WC/BGW guest while staying at this hotel? Don't they know that a majority of their business is from the parks? My favorite line was "Trash must be emptied. Rooms are to be kept clean." Hotel rooms are meant to be trashed, and then you get they joy of walking away from it. Thats why you employee maids-they get paid to "empty the trash." I'm gonna call the hotel and mess with them. I'll let ya'll know how it goes.

Reason why the hotel was unsatisfactory - Well the hotel looked very nice in all the pictures. I guess thats why they only show the lobby in the pictures. They put us in a TINY corner room first. I had to request another as I got clausterphobic. The second one they put us in was just as bad. It smelled bad, the floor was wet, and there was mold and mildew on the ceiling. The bathroom had pubic hairs in the tub and toilet. The sheets were dirty. The hot tub, was GREEN... . When I requested a better room, they offered to put me in a Jacuzzi room free of charge(they were supposed to be newer) but I was NOT ALLOWED to use the Jacuzzi, or I would be charged...So I checked out. worst Hotel EVER
Additional Comments - I did check into the Clarion down the road at the mall, EXCELLENT service. Clean room. Were disappointed they couldnt get us a pool side room..LOL...

I've got 2 to add to the list:

Super 8
hotel circle in San Diego
date of stay: June 2004
parks nearby: Sea World, SD zoo, etc
reasons: The hotel was filthy. We changed rooms twice before the kids collapsed and we couldn't change again. The last room was the cleanest- with hair on the bathroom floor, a clock that didn't work, and other unpleasantness. So you can imagine what the first couple were like (including one the maids had obviously never looked at) Their breakfast didn't exist that they mentioned, with the juice machine broken and the few rolls they put out stale and unedible. And then the guy actually argued with me saying that we got more than our money's worth from the hotel (over $80/ night). I'm still fighting with the chain on that one. Worst hotel I've ever been in.

Ramada Inn
Atlanta Georgia, on Fulton Industrial
date of stay: early July 2004
comments: see what General Public said above about the street. We didn't know that in advance. Old rooms, imcompetent help at the desk (e.g. quoted a lower rate to someone coming in than I got while I was standing at the desk, then wouldn't give that rate to me; still hasn't credited my reward account for the stay, even though I've been faxing papers, etc), dirty, laundry machines didn't work, pool was filthy enough that we didn't dare use it, etc.

My list of hotels to avoid

Best Western - near BGW - old building, musty smell
La Quinta - SFOG - had a really bad experience
Days Inn - BGT - very old building, crappy neighborhood
Microtel - Huron (I think) OH. Several miles from CP. Nice hotel, but it's located very close to a busy railroad line. I slept through the night, but one of my friends said he heard constant trains.

My advice, stay away from "muggers alley". I did not feel safe on that street. The weeds are overgrown and you could easily be rapped in broad daylight without being seen.

All the hotels on that exit and the LaQuinta exit (just up the access road from Six Flags) are very poor quality.

My advice, try the new Country Inns located one exit west of SFoG.

I've never stayed in any hotel in that area (since SFOG is my home park) but I've been a lot and that area is ick...
  • on that street on the side behind SFOG there's a bunch of nasty-looking strip clubs
  • If you go to any of the fast-food places on that street on hours other than SFOG closing time they will be totally deserted, you feel like you'll get mugged
  • The gas stations in the area are very ick too... I have been followed in one of them many times...
  • On the SFOG exit, there's a hotel that has a sign that says "stay here walk to 6 flags", i think it's called fulton or mark inn, it looks very ick but you always see people crossing the street there...
  • there's like 3 hotels on a street off to the side of the SFOG entrance (where the "unofficial" parking lots are) this is where the days inn that stinks stayed at is, i don't know if the other hotels are any good (poo towels... :-\!!)
