| | Cedar Point 9-9 to 9-11 Well...let me start off by saying that it was everything I hoped it would be. My friends and I have been talking about going to CP for several years now, and we finally made plans for this past weekend.
Firstly, if you're from New Jersey (like us), do not plan on driving there unless you really, really, really don't mind driving. The ride was 9+ hours with a few stops, and no real traffic. I've already decided that when I go again (prob next year) I'll fly to Cleveland then rent a car. No way I'm driving that route again. So...we left around 6:30am Friday morning and arrived around 4pm at the Breakers Express. At roughly $60.00/night for this particular weekend, staying at a CP Resorts hotel was definitely worth it. Because we were resort guests, we got into the park a half hour early for Friday night and an hour early on Saturday morning. Also, please send away for the CP brochure before you go. You can send away for it on their website. The back of the brochure had tons of coupons. Among them: Buy One Get One Free Starlight Tickets, $9.00 off Regular Admission, $10.00 off per night at Breakers Express, as well as others. That drastically reduced our expenses so that we could free up extra money for gas....UGH
Anyway...we were allowed in at 5:30pm on Friday night (resort guests) and went staight to Millennium Force. We waited about ten minutes tops, and started our weekend off with a great ride. We couldn't have asked for better weather, mid 70's, clear skies. Throughout the night, we rode Wildcat (typical boardwalk coaster in NJ), Iron Dragon (enjoyed it more than I thought I would), Magnum (UGH) and maXair (awesome). Absolutely no wait for any of them. I have no idea why Magnum is on the top of a lot of people's lists. I must say, it was the worst coaster there. Suggestion? Dismantle Magnum and put up a B&M hyper. We walked around a bit and went to eat at TGIF at the Hotel Breakers for dinner. Afterwards, we walked back into the park and rode Power Tower (Space Shot). About a 15 min wait for that. Just so you know, after Labor Day, Friday nights only have a few of the coasters open due to most of their employees in school. All of them reopen on Saturday. After Power Tower, we were kind of exhausted after an almost 10 hour drive and a few hours at the park. We went back to the hotel and went to sleep.
The next morning, we woke up a bit later than we would have liked, and made it to the park around 9:30am. Another beautiful day awaited us. Our first coaster was Mantis. Pretty exciting as it was our first ride on a stand up coaster. Throughout the day, we got to ride Wicked Twister (2 times, extremely fun), Disastor Transport (coolest part was going up the first lift, very cool lighting), Gemini Blue Train (very smooth), Blue Streak (good for an old coaster), Mean Streak (not as rough as I expected), Cedar Creek Mind Ride (nice, forceful helixes, but slow otherwise), and Raptor (fast, but rough at the last turn into the breaks at the end). We also rode maXair again. No more than a 20 min wait for any of them. Corkscrew didn't really interest any of us, so we skipped it. TTD was closed all weekend, but that's OK, I've already ridden KK a few times. We ate at Donut Time in the morning for a light breakfast (great muffins) and at Macaroni's for lunch. Around $12.00 a person, Macaroni's is an all you can eat pizza, salad, and pasta buffet. The food was pretty good. Throughout the day we also mangaed to make it on the observation tower, Giant Wheel, and Paddleboat Excursions (kind of corny). If you're interested in the history of the park, you might want to check out the Town Hall Museum (I think that was the name). We left the park at closing (8:00pm) and went to eat at Applebee's for dinner on Route 250 near the Sandusky Mall. Afterwards, we went back to the hotel and slept.
We woke up around 10:00 the next morning, packed our stuff, checked out around 10:30 and left for the day. Another exhausting 9 hour drive back to good old, rude, NJ. We seemed to pick the best weekend of the year to go to CP as we had the best weather and waited no more than 20 min for any roller coaster. Even rides that were posted at 1/2 hour wait weren't really a half hour long. I will agree with most people in saying Cedar Point is the best amusement park in the world. People that work for Six Flags should visit and take a few hints from CP. In my opinion CP is what Six Flags parks as well as other parks should strive to be. Right now, there is no comparison.

| | Wow, that is a very long drive. You guys must love long highways!! I hope the weather is good for you also. Are you guys staying at a CP resort? Hopefully, so you can get into the park earlier.

| | | Good to hear you had a great time especially since that was your first time. About Magnum, I know how you feel....sort of. I think it is overrated but it's still a classic ride and is fun and I think deserves some respect. It has a few rough spots but I don't find it to be that bad. I ride it at least once everytime I go every year. Don't expect for Cedar Point to ever replace it with a B&M hyper.even if they ever did geet rid of Magnum, it wouldn't be to get another hyper. They already have Millennium Force and with Top Thrill Dragster already being even taller than that, there would almost be no point. A hyper at most parks would be incredible but at CP it would be...dare I say it, underwhelming?
Magnum will be at the park for many years to come.

| | You're right, it would be underwhelming Perhaps a flyer, seeing as how they don't have one of those yet.

| | | Nice TR. I would love to see a flyer go where Magnum is but have be as long as Magnum. If they built a huge, and fast flyer, maybe Hyper, that went along the lake I would be in heaven.

Yeah there's not really alot to see on the way up. I guess i'm just one of those people who love takeing long road trips.

| | | CP won't get a flyer until the people per hour goes up on them.
I'm going the 24th and 25th of Sept. and expect waits to be the same, less than an hour. If TTD is up, then I'm sure it'll be less. If not, then MF will have a monstrous wait. I just hope we stay at the resorts!
Anyways, how do you think a 9 hour drive is bad?! We drive 12 hours for a park for 2 days, then drive right back home! And thats not even CP! I like driving more than flying. Flying is waaaaaay too cramped. Sounds like you had a nice trip. How many times did you do MF? |

| | Unfortunately we only rode MF once. I wanted to ride it again so badly, but had to accomodate the others that were along with me. They aren't into coasters as much as I nor do they have the stamina for them like I do. Note to self: travel next time only with coaster freaks!!

| | | Ahh, thats no fun. Thats what I hate about going with friends, they want to do the flat rides and the mine train and all that gay stuff. I'm like, COASTERS! Luckily, I'm going with my coaster freak cousins. Its 4 of us and we all do all the parks together.
So how many total hours were you at the park? I'm getting 18 hours in on my weekend and I expect crowds to be light. My goal is 25 coasters. Think that will happen? |

| | | I don't think there is anything wrong with flats. maXair is a flat, and is also a great ride and certainly not "gay".

| | | Well your talking about CP... I can only talk about what I've done, SFStl and SFGAm flats. We've been other places but we don't do flats. They just don't give the thrill. And half the time the lines are just as long. |

| | | That's true. The flats here at SFGAdv aren't really anything to talk about either. maXair is prob the best flat I've ever been on. It seems to be Huss's next generation version of the Pendulum. It's extremely unnerving and doesn't leave you feeling dizzy at all.
