SFMM - December

G'day Everyone!!

I'm Nick from Australia!

I am flying over to California in December, December 15th to be exact and am after some tips for Magic Mountain!

Now Six Flags is open that weekend (18,19th) and then the whole next week. My question is wether it would be better to go on the weekend or should I go during the week, being that perhaps its school holidays. What would you recommend? are the crowds usually bad around December??

Thanks Heaps!!
Nick

you should go on a weekday no lines but 1 train for every ride.but the lines will be shorter then a weekend.some more advice go to these rides in order so you dont hit small crowds.
1.x
2.viper
3.deja vue
4.riddlers
5.batman
6.goliath
7.colossus
8.scream
and after that ride what ever you want those are the best rides with the longest lines on weekdays.

I have always found Saturdays in November/December good times to go. The last time I went on a Saturday in December, X was about a 30 minute wait with two trains; Goliath was about a 30 minute wait with two trains, Scream was a five minute wait with two trains and that was for the front row; some of the other rows were a walk on; B:TR was a walk on; Riddlers was a 15 minute wait with two trains. Whether you go weekday or weekend, you should be able to ride everything with no problem at all in December.

Thanks so much for the info guys!

I will probably go Saturday and Sunday when I arrive because to be honest I reckon I will be too excited to wait. If its really busy I will come back during the week but I think it will be fine!

I am going to visit Knotts, Universal Hollywood and I guess I couldn't go to America without visiting Disneyland, however to be honest its not high on my priority list. I am heading up to Las Vegas as well, I have heard there a few coasters there as well which I will check out! Should be fun times indeed!!!

SFMM's crowds shouldn't be to bad for you. You should be able to do everything in one day, pretty much regardless of which day you go. It is Christmas vacation for schools, so it'll be a little heavier than it might be otherwise. But the park does stay fairly light that time of year.

Be prepared at Disney though. Christmas is easily one of their busiest times of the year, if not the absolute busiest. So there's no way you're going to get the park done in a single day.

San Francisco is a 7 hour drive from the LA area on a good day. Along the way is the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk if you take a short cut off of 101 (about 40 minutes out of the way) and it will be open year round.

Vegas is 3-4 hours from LA in a different direction. Depending on how long you're going to be in the area, I would skip the San Francisco part of the trip (unless you're going to be here for a month) Long drive and the weather isn't really pleasant that time of year. And if you're going Vegas, plan on at least a couple of days there since there is a lot to see and do.

If you have the time and funds, then I would say yes. But this park is not one you go out of your way to visit. There's nothing really spectacular about it, so if you miss it, it's nothing to cry over. When I went in 2000, their premier attraction was the $17 million dollar, first true modern flying coaster - Stealth, but it has since been relocated to its sister park in the Carolinas as BORG Assimilator. It's a small park with very short/small coasters and just a handful of modern flatrides. Try and get a local discount, 'cause paying full price to get into this park won't be worth it.

I do not think the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is open year round. You may want to look at that...Northern California often gets cold during the winter...and I can't see the Boardwalk being open in the winter time.

And I agree with Chris. Paramounts Great America is not worth the drive up. If you drive up...plan something else but Paramounts. Not only is it not open during december, its not that great of a park. It lacks coasters....so badly. I wouldn't suggest a visit to PGA. If you do plan a bay area coaster tour...no luck in December. Six Flags Marine World closes around November...so does Paramounts...as does Santa Cruz.

Regardless.....I don't think Paramounts is worth the drive. At all.

Trust a guy who went to college and lived in that area for 3 years- it's open year round. During the winter it's only open on weekends, but it is open.

According to their website, they're open weekends 11-7, through November. They do go to a limited operation on Winter Weekends, but that usually includes the major rides (the area with the Cave Train and the log flume are usually what get's closed off)

This year they do have 3 weeks in Dec that they're not open at all. But they open up daily the day after Christmas.
