| | | SFoG 9/18 & 9/25 Well, I headed out to SFoG for a short day of fun two Sundays ago.
The crowds were pretty light, but this trip was all aobut seeing the construction. 6 or 7 massive (4x4x4) footers are ready for helix supports, and the lake beneath the 2nd drop/hammerhead is not fully drained. The park looks really empty without the Gasp, so I hope vertical construction starts soon.
I got 21 rides from 11-5:
Scorcher (really running well): 5
B:TR: 3 (grey-outs on both loops and helix)
S:UF: 3
Cyclone: 3
Mindbender: 1
Acrophobia: 3
GASM: 1
Deja Vu: 1
Skybuckets: 1
The following week, we left for Atlanta shortly after church for an MIT information session (MIT sounds really cool, I hope I can get in there).
Since I had a Bring-A-Friend free coupon, my dad and I went to SFoG from 5:15-closing (8).
The contruction zone looked the exact same as the previous week.
Anyway, I got 17 rides in about 3 hours, which was excellent.
B:TR: 3
Mindbender: 2
Scorcher: 2
Cyclone: 4
Acrophobia: 3
GASM: 2
S:UF: 1 (last ride of the day in Row 7-YEAH!)

| | | Is SFOG a good park? I know it has good coasters and rides, but it's a SF park so is it a dirty park with no trees? I want to go sometime soon, but since I live in Orlando it's too far to drive unless my family is going to our mountian place in North Carolina.

| | | ^It's a good park. Acrophobia and Deja Vu are something you don't want to miss, so head on back to Vu right when the back opens, and maybe even be able to catch a couple of extra rides. There are a bunch of hills, so be ready for that. from Deja Vu to Acrophobia you can use the skybuckets to head up the massive hill that is between them, as Deja Vu topographically is the lowest point in the park.

| | | What about the Scorcher? Even though it is small, how does it compare to the bigger B & M stand ups. The new B & M hyper for next year will b a great addition. I have ridden AC, and it delievers 9 spots of sweet airtime. And is a Vekoma truley the best ride in the whole park (that's if it is actually running).

| | | ^ No, Deja Vu is not the best coaster in the park. It can be, but most of the time, it isn't. My personal favorite is Cyclone, followed by Acorphobia, Scorcher, and Mindbender.
Scorcher is my 2nd favorite standup (only Riddler is better). It is smooth, provides some great airtime and positive G's in the back, and usually never has much of a wait.
If you do plan a trip to SFoG, make sure it is March-June or September-October. For any tips on when to go, where to sit, etc., just PM me.
Deja Vu can occasionally be the best ride in the park. You must sit on the left side of the train (this is especailly important if you are assigned a "B" row) and you must pray to the coaster gods that you get on a car with new wheels, which makes the ride much smoother. For example, I rode in row 3A (left side) two weeks ago, and it was butter smooth and a very powerful, smooth, and fun ride. Later that day, I rode again (dehydrated and tired, these two can also cause a bad ride on Deja Vu, so ride early when you are fresh) in row 6B (right side) and came off with a migrane that nearly forced me to go home.
Obviously, the front is the best seat, but since seating is assigned, that gives you a 1 in 8 chance of getting one of the 4 front row seats. If you can't get 1A or 1B, go for 8A or 8B and pray for new wheels.

| | | I really hate when they assign seats. You should be able to wait for where you want to ride. The only good thing about that is on California Screamin you can ask and always get a front row ride. Also, how is Mind Bender. I've always wanted to go on a Schwarzkopf and never have. Oh and i wanted to say how just looking at the Ninja just makes me sick. Is it really as bad as it looks?

| | Best part of MindBender is the "sorta-kinda loop." The tilted one ... it's weird. It's not the typical vertical loop. It's more like a whacked-up helix, but anyways...
Ninja, as said before, is not NEARLY as bad as people make it out to be. I think people just like to hear themselves complain about stuff! It's a fun ride. Best part: everybody hates it, making the line shorter for me!
IMO, Georgia Scorcher is better than Riddler's Revenge at SFMM. RR is just so big and spread out, and blah! Just my opinion, though. GS is way under-recognized, but again, makes the line shorter for me!
The "new" of DejaVu hasn't worn off. That's why people, like me, love it so much. Kindof a gimmick-y ride, but I love it! Willski's right about where you sit. That's the determining factor of whether the experience is pain-free or pain-ful.
Georgia Cyclone is one of my favorites in the park! Ah! I love it. The second drop is the best! Some laterals and ejector air on the last car! Gets me excited just thinkin' about it!
Acrophobia is possibly the most re-ridable in the park. And by far the most emotional. Love the excitement of the people queuing up for it.
As for the park not having trees ... I've never heard of that. It's a well-landscaped park, I think. I mean, you wouldn't wanna compare it to Dollywood or a Busch Gardens park, but it's not un-kept by any means. They're startin' to figure out the trash-can idea. Now if they could just make them where they don't stink so bad. That Hot-lanta heat really gets that stinch goin' under the hot afternoon sun.
I miss the park, as I've not been since May! Got my drivers' license suspended (30 over the speed limit), and can't get to the park as often as last season. Oh well. Can't wait for '06 though. Goliath's gonna rock!

| | Thanks for the updates on SFoG. I'm hoping to be able to get back up there sometime. My one trip there last summer Acrophobia and Deja Vu were closed (big surprise, hehe) so I want to visit again.
Did want to comment on this: Quote: |

I've found the 3 Paramount parks I've visited to be far more "tree scarce" than almost all of the Six Flags parks. Cedar Fair would be about the same. In fact, a couple of the Six Flags parks I've been to have had a lot of the park feel almost like a forest. SFoG and SFStL both have a lot of VERY green sections.
I know that some like to push as if all the chain were alike, but it's not. There are a couple of bad apples in it, but many of the parks are very nice and a lot of fun. Including SFoG.

| | | Hammy, have you been on RR? It doesn't feel spread out at all when you are on it, it's very intense. Scorcher would be my Number 1 standup if it were longer, that's what RR has over Scorcher, it's interesting and fun throughout the entire ride (no dull spots, just like Scorcher), but is 1,400 feet longer than Scorcher.

| | | ^Acrophobia was struck by lightning last year. Supposedly the electricity went from Acrophobia down to Deja Vu and blew out the motor. Now all is well though. Here are my thoughts on a few of the rides
Deja Vu: Hit it right when it opens up, maybe even some extra rides with smaller lines. Sweet ride
Batman: Pretty good, especially in the very back
Superman: Get the very back for the G's, and the very front for the view. I advise you not to sit on the far right side of the train, because there is a plant sticking up immediately after the turn next to the station. It really hurts to hit it.
Acrophobia: A nice form of birth control, but you get used to it. Sometimes if you get a nice op they will let you stay on for as long as you want.
Cyclone: Unless you plan on breaking your back, don't even think about it.

| | ^Psh, all that Acro to DV stuff is a load of crap. Deja Vu's motor blew because it was made by Vekoma and it is a piece, just like Deja Vu.
Cyclone-Must ride at SFoG, it's one of the top 25 woodies in the world. Sit in the back car, front row and experience some massive ejector air. It's not rough as long as you stay away from the back row of each car (unless you are uh........ sensitive).
Mindbender-Ride in the back and front for some good G's and air.
Batman-Another B:TR, fun, but not incredible.
Deja Vu-Yeah, I thin everyone knows my feelings on this (PoS unless everything is perfect, which is very rare).
Ninja-Tear it out and build a Dragon Khan clone over the lake. Ride it in the back car, front row for the "smoothest" ride.
GASM-Car 3, Row 2 (and that's that).
S:UF-Not worth more than a 15 min. wait, but ride in the front or back. The plant won't hit you unless you reach wayyyyy out........
Kiddie coaster-Whee, backseat airtime on the first drop, but other than that, meh......
DMT-Old Arrow (bad transitions, bad everything)+fiberglass seatbacks=PAIN.
Acrophobia-Leave some room between yourself and the seat (resist the fear of falling out, you won't) and you'll save your family jewels.
Scorcher-Ride in the front or back for a great ride with plenty of airtime, G's, and directional changes.

Not saying it wasn't a good ride, I just prefer Scorcher. Would be awesome if it were longer, though that would risk altering the "personality" of the ride.
Just a preference. Liked RR a lot, didn't love it.

| | | I liked Riddler's more too. Scorcher packs some heavy Gs but still doesn't match Riddler's in terms of height, speed and duration. Also, Riddler's has dive loops which rock on Stand Ups.
- at least I like Scorcher more than Mantis, for what that's worth |

Just a preference. Liked RR a lot, didn't love it. | Where did you ride on RR? It can be a pretty intense ride in the back half of the train. Only floorless I've been on so far where I really noticed the hang time and pops of air.
Scorcher is also a great one. I tend to lean towards RR, but Scorcher would be right behind it.

| | | Dudes, I'll re-ride RR when I'm out in California again. Ya'll got me excited about it again. It's been a while, uh-h ... 2002 I believe. Long enough for force to be erased from my brain. Like I said, it's not one of those rides that was like, "Holy cow!" It was fun! For some reason, I clearly remember sittin' in a train forever in the brake run. SFMM was stackin', really bad.
I should be making a trip to SFoG on Columbus Day. I'll do my best to write a full TR, though TN may not need another SFoG TR. Oh well. I'll take some pictures with my phone (2MP pics, good ones).
