Friday night... The freaks come out. Or at least until rain shuts down the park.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Friday night October 7th was the official "unofficial" ACE night at Scarowinds.
For those that have been living in a closet (no there's nothing in that use of phrase)

there was a huge tropical storm that had basically taken over the whole Eastern United States this weekend.
That being said, weather reports were "grim" for Scarowinds.
I decided to be nuts and go ahead and go to the park hoping that someone would show up. I pulled into the parking lot and there were
8 cars in the parking lot! Which is very unusal for Scarowinds. They are usually packed on a Friday night.
Two other people showed...Carowinds 73-03 and Jonathan (fearless leader over at CarowindsConnection.com).
We got our Platinum discounted tickets for $16.99 each and headed into the park.
I won't bore you with too many details (I know a shocker for anything i write)

but here are the mazes and attractions and how I felt about them.
Haunted trail (can't recall the name) - Closed due to being so muddy and probably lack of staffing due to lack of park guests.
Massacre Manor (I think that's what it's called) - Same place and sort of same setup as Nightmare Manor last year (the picnic tables/cover where we ate at C3). This year I liked the interior a lot more. I also liked the little doors they could open and pop out of and them slam really hard after when closing them. Cockroaches! Run! 9/10
Alien Crypt 3-D - Pretty much same as last year, but for some reason the "3-D suits" the guys wore did not blend in as well with the walls as they did last year. Last year I would jump for the simple fact that you couldn't tell someone was there until they moved! 7/10
Superstition simulatar ride - Wow I had no idea this was going to turn out to bascially be a roller coaster sim ride! It would be even better in 3-D! 9/10
Escape from Alcatraz - I get a little clostrophobic in small places where I can't see how to get out. This thing bothered me enough that if we had decided to I would not have gone in a 2nd time! It had been raining of course so when they'd hit the chain link fence to scare you, they would spray you in the face with water (which added a new dimension to the attraction). lol
Top Gun - Or should I say
ChopGun (it's old Scarowinds name). Two front row rides without a single person showing up in the station! If it had not been raining again and the fact that the park was going to close at 8:30 I would have ridden again. Look at the pic on the link. Yes that train is running! There just isn't anyone there to ride!
Hurler - Skipped due to the fact that it was raining again and I had no desire to get wet right before going home.
Borg - Skipped for reasons I do not know. lol
Some side notes: The roaming actors throughout the park were much better looking and...er...acting this year.
The overall look of the park was much more effective this year without going too far (I don't like blood and gore).
We even ran into Scott and Natividad from
PR several times in the park. I'm so glad we have such cool people on staff these days!
We did pretty much everything we wanted to within 1.5 hours. The park opened at 7 and closed at 8:30. They even gave us a comp ticket on the way out to come back later!
Here are my pics from Friday if you want to check them out... oh and don't miss the "Ghetto (sp?)Hearst" lol
