| | | Six Flags St. Louis 10/22-The Season Closer This trip actually started 10/20 after a long debate over which park to go to that would finish up the season for Ta2kx and I. The three choices were; SFStl, Mt. Oly, and Scarowinds. Each were about equal traveling distance and would cost about the same. Well it was not an easy decision because each had it's own strengths and weak points. Well unable to make a choice, we decided to pick out of a hat.
The Red Chip- Hades
The Green Chip- Boss
The White Chip- BORG?
Well I reached and pulled out a white chip. It was set then. Well we then figured screw it, Carowinds sucks.
So it was between Mt.O & SFStL, and we did it as a best of 7 series...
Pull 1-Red, Pull 2-Green, Pull 3-Red, Pull 4-Red, Pull 5-Green,...
Pull 6 was up to me. I reached in the hat and grasped the chip, unsure of our fate. A sudden urge in me told me to throw the chip, and so I did. Well it landed in a garden and we couldn't find it. So I reached in the hat to discover the chip that did not win, and once again, some force told me to throw it and it landed in the street. I went to go pick it up and saw it was red. But as I neared the curb, a bus came and ran over it.
I looked at Dave and said, "WTF does this mean!? SFStL is lost and Mt. O just got ran over by a bus!"
Confused on trying to interpret fate, we got another green chip for our final pull...Pull 7-We dropped the chip to the ground like it was the "Ven lerh durn cogz fe truge" which translated from elvish means "One Chip, to rule them All." It was red, we were going to Mt. Olympus...
The X factor
Well one thing we hadn't considered was of course...the weather. Chance of rain at SFStL 0-20%, Mt.O 40-60%. Now I know that made this whole previous story useless, but...well......STFU!
Six Flags St. Louis
We left Detroit at 3:30AM and prepared for the long 9 hour trip to St. Louis. This was my first time going here, and Dave's 2nd. The drive wasn't too bad considering I slept about half the way and drove only a quarter of it. Gas was a killer, especially since we took Dave's Trans Am, which takes Premium. Finally we arrived in St. Louis and I saw the Arch and the Mississippi river for the first time in my life. Quite impressive, any takers on the possibility for a Ripcord on the Arch?
$10 for parking?! Are you serious? We should of just walked from the hotel. Whatever, we would walk back and forth from the car several times anyways. It was sunny so I was actually able to just wear my short-sleeved CP Supervisor shirt. First thing I notice, Metal Detectors. Damn, I would have to leave my Beretta in the car, strike 2 SFStL. We get to the gates and use the tickets we bought online to get in and fight off the picture takers, one girl actually hit Dave with her camera later that evening. We decided to jump start this trip with Mr. Freeze...
Mr. Freeze
"Wait, wait, Where are we?" Yeah, we got lost trying to get to Freeze, in fact we got lost many times. See it has always been my personal code that a true enthusiast never uses a park map, they should just feel the park layout. To each his own, get off me. After a little detouring, we finally made it to the entrance. 10 min wait, no problem. The station theming was fairly good and I loved the dueling stations. The line for the front was short so we took it. Lapbars...you gotta love it. I was actually a little tense, my last roller coaster hadn't been for a few months back when I worked for CP. The launch was a little different because it pulled forwards slowly for a split second and then took off. I actually enjoy that more since I'm not a fan of anxiety. Looking down the tunnel you see the pull up and it looks very sharp and it is. 1 second in horizontal and I blink and I'm vertical, amazing. I hit the top hat, whoa, inverted positive G's, I love it. On the way down, there is a nice head cutter, overbanked turn, and then vertical, and then you go through it all backwards. I liked this ride, but it did have it's faults. After feeling the launch of Dragster and Hypersonic, the launch just felt par. The most discouraging thing was coming off it felt a lot like I had just come off nothing more than a shuttle loop/boomerang. Great ride, but it really just didn't wow me. I would not reride.
6/10
Batman: The Ride
This would be my 4th B:TR and needless to say, this one was nothing special. The color of the track is questionable. Seems like a faded black, but in some light it looks blue. Again I saw the uniquely familiar cop car in the fire hydrant. This clone didn't hit the inversions as hard as others though. the B:TR in Great America makes you black out on the second loop and lose feeling in your feet on the helix. Still a good B&M.
5/10
Ninja
I didn't fully trust this coaster at first and it worried me that it was a walk-on. We took the very back seat. There's a little lift off the first hill, you grey out a little in the loop, then the Sidewinder...great inversion that hides the ninja that sudden morphs out of the track and ninja chops your head off with some lift chain. Great ride with only some minor jerkiness. Best headchopper to date...
7/10
River King Mine Train
Walk-on, sat in the second row. I really wasn't sure what to make of this coaster, mostly because of the 2 large girls in the front obstructing any hope of a view. So I just kept yelling,
"People please hold your excitement, this is not a real ride!"
"I can't see anything, diet in front!"
But in all honestly, this is actually a pretty good ride for beginners. Starts out slow and gives you a drop at the end. I would of loved this ride when I was young.
4/10
Screamin' Eagle
John Allen's favorite. It had about an hour wait and some real cheesy Halloween theming. Got 3/4 up the ramp to the station and someone upchucked in the 2nd seat, yeah. We passed the time talking with some people until 15 mins later they had it cleaned and roped off. We took the second from the back row. On the train before us, a kid said his lapbar wouldn't go down and Dave, who worked on Mean Streak with PTCs, said, "push up on it first.", which of course worked and everyone around was slightly impressed except me who was like STFU. The ride was ok but the hills were very rounded off so you really weren't pulled off your seat on the hills, you just lifted up slightly. It seemed like a great family ride, like a roller coaster that could go into Disney, just because there was a little positive, negative, and lateral Gs, but nothing excessive. I rode again in the front which proved to be much better.
8/10
Boss
Theirs is a true beauty in this coasters structure. Built among the trees and terrain, it towers over the trees as if it was the boss of the forest. And then I noticed the Gerstlauer trains. Ugh, they look like something directly out of a Chucky Cheese. As the trains go through the helix they deafen the queue with a sound of a shrieking cat. The queue itself is awesome because it is built over a go-kart track which draws your attention while your waiting in line. After a long wait, we got to the station and went second to last row again. We got the yellow train. Now I in no way memorized this layout so I knew nothing of what to expect. Going up the lift hill I had a great view of what was ahead, but I could of never understood what was about to happen to me physically. The first drop was great with a big old yank off the top. I hit the bottom and it shook my body and confidence a little. As I flew threw the structure, I saw an illusion of Mr. Six of my right, he held kitten in his hand, saying, "Look at the dancing kitty." Well a sucker for cats, I played along smiling and waving my hands in delight, I hit an unexpected double dip and felt amazing airtime. Suddenly Mr. Six turned into Hades...and with a devilish laugh said, "REPENT!!!". Suddenly the airtime turned into positive Gs. One word can describe it, Choppy. Not just a little choppy, this choppy rivals Son of Beast itself. In my mind I'm just screaming, AHHHHHHHHHHHHH TRIBULATION CEASE!!!!! It reminded me of Hercules because out of the extreme roughness of the drop, I couldn't remember a thing about the rest of the layout. I was still in a daze from shaking every time you hit the bottom of the hill. Plus the restraints bangs your knees in the final turns, and the helix is just unspeakable. Don't get me wrong, it's got the CCI airtime and an excellent layout, but it's impossible to enjoy when your about to have a concussion. I came off the ride bruised, beaten, and considering Boss in my bottom 5.
After that, I returned to the car for some food and regain my memory. We threw a football around for a while until I was consciously aware of my surroundings. I was feeling a little better so I decided to give boss another go.
The second time around the line was even longer. But we used the go kart track to pass the time. We would stereotype the people in line to try to figure out who would win the race. As the people went by, we would yell at them if they sucked. We also spotted two celebrity look alikes on the go karts. One was Conny Chung and the other was George Lucas. Hey, we were bored. Well eventually we go to the station and this time we tried the very front. This is a much different ride. We also got the purple train. The ride is much smoother, yet you don't get as much airtime. I started to understand why some people call this their favorite coaster and still complain it's rough. In the front, it's a top 15 coaster. But if it had PTCs, it would be top 5. So much potential...

| | | It's was getting cold so we went back to get our jackets. On the way back we stopped to ride Xacliber.
Xacliber
What can I say, this ride is very unusual. I got in thinking it's Maxair, and it ended up being a carnival typhoon. I had to close my eyes when it was going sideways because it was just too much and I had just eat a little while again. But I did look when we were at the very top facing down. I thought that was very cool, especially since you don't even feel like your falling since you're getting pressed in your seat laterally. But as the ride slows, you again just see the world whirling around you and you lose yourself. As you get off the ride, you are unreasonably dizzy. One guy commented in a sarcastically upbeat tone, "This is a stewwwpid ride."
Haunted Area
We also decided to go see the area of the park where there was supposed to be scary things and stuff I guess. Well we saw clowns, but that was it. So we went through this walk through thing. First this one guy says, "Come're I gots somethin's to show ya's, look." And then a head pops out of a barrel and Dave and I just give a blank stare back. Then we walk through a spinning tunnel walkway. As I'm walking, I notice one clown is right behind me.
I say,
"I see you."
*clown moves closer*
"I said, I see you, stop hunching over me."
*clown b*tch goes right up to my ear and screams*
"YOU.........*****ING..........ASSCLOWN!!!!!"
Now I already had a headache and no, I don't know what an assclown is and the whole point of this trip was to get away from the screams of the girlfriend, but I decided to keep my cool and not add a clown to my list of six flags characters I've put to the ground.
Alright, let's give Boss one more shot. Again it was a long wait. And it started to rain, and it was cold, and windy. The line felt long since they closed the go karts because of the rain. I wasted my time trying to make the girls in front of us lack by being a jackass, which I finally got only after 50 mins on some cheesy line about the Boss being on fire. Whatever, passed the time and soon we were in the station. We gave second to back another try, this time on the purple train. This time it was much better. I really do believe it was both the train, and this time along I knew where to brace myself for the rough spots, which made it bearable. Plus riding a terrain wood coaster at night is always a plus. Overall it was an excellent ride, brought down by the shackles of Gerstlauer. Hopefully someday it will be free, and you know what, if that days comes I'll be there.

As some final thoughts on the park, I just want to say it fell a little below my expectations. The staff was often unable to answer our questions, there was litter all over the paths, the path layout is confusing, the themeing was very halfassed, everything needs to be painted, and the only question I have about landscaping is.... "Landscaping?" But I still had a great time and I've seen Six Flags more deprived than this. Also I think it was a mistake of me to try to do a 10 hour drive and then go to the park. If I ever do a trip like this again, I would shell out the extra money at a hotel to regain my energy before taking on a somewhat big park like this one.

| | | I agree with you on Freeze, its fun yea, but not thrilling. The launch sucks ass because the initial of it is only powered by 3 LIMs. If they had the whole station segment lined with them, it would be much more powerful.
Boss, as you said, purple train rocks. I'm guessing by yellow train you mean the train with the yellow front on it. That is the slower train I believe and the green is the fastest. Purple is the smoothest though. I won't ride it unless I get Purple. The ride is rough in the back and smooth in the front. The VERY back row is smoother than the 6:1 row but theres not as much leg room.
Sounds like you sorta had fun. You should have opted for GAm though. Its such a better park with completely different rides. |

| | | We've both been to SFGAm, ehhhh, we got the jist of it pretty well. He had not been to SFStL yet, I had, but since he hadn't gone before and I was just looking for any reason to get back for another night ride on Boss, we made that trip. This must have been the first time in my memories that the two of us went an entire season without defending our bumper car flawless-kill status.

| | | I guess I'm deprived of good Six Flags entertainment or something, when I went to SFStl this past summer I loved the park. I thought it was great. Then again my local park is SFA, so my standards are lower then most peoples.
I rode Boss 3 times, everytime in the front row, deffinately one of my favorite coasters, the gerslaughter trains take a lot away from it. But much like Hurricane Category 5 I try to look past the beatings my legs get from the restraints and don't hold too much against the ride. Overall I thought Boss was one of the best wood coasters I've been on. Then again I haven't been on too many of the cream of the crop woodies out there.
I'm surprised you didn't think Mr Freeze wasn't worth a re-ride though, I think I rode it a total of maybe 5 times because there was no wait early on. I thought that top hat and the vertical spike was rediculous.
