Six Flags Marine World TR 5-30

I have spent the last week with Montu Man and some family in the Bay Area. I might write a long TR of the whole trip, but this one is just about our trip to the park on Tuesday.

We left the house around 9:15 and arrived at the park at roughly 9:45. We were dropped off and we walked up to the entrance, and saw V2 right over the entrance, medusa to our right, and Roar to our left. We stood in line and bought our 50 dollar tickets and entered the park a little after 10. The park was surprisingly crowded with teenagers (it was a school day) but we sson fund out it was "field trip day" because that Tuesday was the first weekday the park had been open all year. Anyway, we decided to go to V2 first and we were unhappy that there were no maps at the front gate and we didn't want to walk over like 60 feet to get one, so we just took the path that looked like it lead to the ride. We came up to it and jumped into the front row line, which had 2 people ahead of us. The surprise waiting in line was that there was about 5-7 employees just hanging out in the station eating McDonalds and talking. Doesn't Six Flags put them some where where they can be productive?

V2
This was my favorite ride in the park. The lauch was great and I love how you hang upside down on the 1st and 3rd launches. The 2nd launch takes you through the barrell roll and onto pretty straight track. I enjoyed this a lot to and it provided a great view of the park and Medusa (couldn't they've at least plant some trees) The Vertical Tower was good but I enjoyed the 45 degree barrell roll thing a lot better. I have a question about that though. Does it count as an inversion? You go upside down, but no one seems to count it.

Rating: 8.5/10

We rode V2 three times and then headed over to Roar, which is right next door. But a big school went into the line just ahead of us, so the line was pretty long (especially with one train operation) and we decided to come back later. So after that we decided to go to Medusa before the line got to long. Well, the park had only been open for an hour and the wait was well over an hour. Both of us just decided the wait would get longer so we waited. An we waited and waited, without moving much. Then we descovered they were only running one train. I mean, please. An hour and a half wait and only one train operation. I was just standing here thinking all the stuff people say about Six Flags is true. Anyway, as we inched closer and closer to the entance building (still about 45 minutes once you reach there) people started to get annoyed with the one train operation, and luckily for us, a good amount of people left the line. At least there was music in the station, that was a plus.

Anyway, when we get into the station and line up for Row 3, we watch the attendents and discover the slowest loading crew ever. Instead of coming and just checking the restarints, they would try to staple everyone at the slowest pace ever instead of pulling up on the restraint and checking the seatbelt, like a normal B&M crew would do. After they let a few trains go while we were in there, they finally decided to let another train on and got a standing ovation from the crowd. So the line moved a lot quicker and we got on after a really long wait.

Medusa
I was really expecting a lot from this B&M Floorless. The anticiaption built as we went up the lift and we got a nice view of the parking lot below, still with all the parking spaces clearly drawn out. The train then crested the lift hill and started down the pre drop and drop. The drop was good, and I liked it because I prefer the straight drops rather than the cirved on the loopers. But I was a little dissapointed it didn't have the airtime the Kraken has on the drop. The first three inversions were the exact same as Kraken, but they were just too tame. Hardly any forces and the zero g roll hardly produced any airtime. The Roll Over was different, and kinda disorenting, but i think I prefer just a normal cobra roll. The corkscrews were good and I liked the turns towards the end of a ride. Overall, I liked the ride a lot, but I didn't love it. It was just plain too tame.

Overall:8/10

I'll have more later.

When we got off Medusa we decided to go ride the kiddie coaster nearby so we could get on something. We walked on the mile long train and sat down

Cobra
The coaster looked like it was about to fall apart but it actually gave a good ride for a kiddie coaster. It had a couple headchoopers and a bunch of close to the ground helixes. So it was decent for a kiddie. I actually liked it better than Kong.

Overall: 3/10

After Cobra, I was thirsty and had to go to the bathroom so we set off to find a food/drink stand and a bathroom. After a couple minutes of walking we found a bathroom, but it was closed. We had also passed maybe 3 or 4 closed food places. I finally found a snow cone place and even though it was kind of cold and windy decided to get one since it seemed like all of the other stalls were closed. After that we finally found a bathroom by the entrance. Next, we decided to go to Kong and check out our first ever SLC. But when we walked up it was broken down, so we elected to go check out the boomerang.

Once we got there we were delighted to see the new boomerang trains on the track. We waited for maybe 15 minutes and got in line for the back row.

Boomerang (what a creative name)
This ride was a lot better than I thought it would be. It's probably the new trains, but it's actually pretty smooth. It went up a lot higher than I thought boomerangs did, and the only real roughness was on the frontwards cobra roll. I really liked the ride backwards, and the inversions backwards were very disorenting. I was expecting a crap ride but the ride delieved way beyond my expectations

Overall: 6.5/10

I'll have more later.

nah, we're good..................

I'll comment, I know how it feels to write a good TR and then have just a few comments.

SFMW sounds alright, that sucks that Medusa had such a long line (and that they just took Zonga out!). Did you get to ride on Roar?

I went a long time ago, I was younger, Kong was brand new, and it has just become Six Flags. And your TR is good. I wish I was there riding Medusa! Or V2 or Kong even!

I didn't love Medusa either. I felt like I was numb and used to all the elements. I'm glad I got the credit no doubt. The Sea Serpent was cool to do for the first time. I think I liked the original Medusa with its dive loop and path over grass a lot better than this one.

I really don't prefer shuttles though my name suggests but the Frankenstein of impulses V2 stood out and was a must ride. It's not my favorite ride in the park though.

I think Kong has the best color arrangement of all SLC's but I was wish it was positioned differently. Now I know what it would be like to get onto Batman the Escape or any other coaster oriented like that.

Roar was probably my favorite ride in the park but I don't have strong feelings towards any of the coasters in the park. I guess I was bitter and upset that Zonga can't run in a comfortable manner and numb to riding the coasters that day. I had a fun day at the park though. I was just too caught up in the race for credits.

Boomerang likely had new wheels. If the park keeps up with that the ride can be Farly smooth and enjoyable.

I've only been on the SFGAdv Medusa. The SFMW one looks good outside the PArkign lot theming. but the Medusa line seems to be an ultra smooth ride line with very little intensity.

I'd like to see more. how was Roar and Did you check out the Marine life exhibits at all.

^Yes I will definatley have more tomorrow with Kong and Roar. I would do it now but I have to get up at 6:15 for summer school.

And to answer your question about the marine life, no we didn't. We didn't really have enough time plus Sea World is right down the street.
