Smile SFOG - ECC American Adventure Trip.

I was out at Six Flags Over Georgia on monday for a coaster club gathering. The European Coaster Club http://www.coasterclub.org/ was here on a 20 day tour of US parks.
The ECCs Trip details and to read about some of the members comments about the rides they liked and disliked and tons of photos go here http://www.coasterclub.org/trips/reports/2006/usa/

As for my day with the club as I only attended one day of the trip.

The final day concluded at SFOG so I drove up to attend the event and meet some of the club members. Well 8 hour drive and a nights stay, morning arrives for check in at 830 for the event. Around 75 members of the ECC arrived by bus and some of the clubs US members arrived for the event. We were let in at 845 with a short walk to Goliath. Up the fast pass lane and everybody basikally garbed a seat as they had both trains running. So for an hour I road same car and basically the same seat. I got 14 rides in the hour during our Exclusive Ride Session as its called by the brits.
After the ride time I had some time to roam the park and of coarse do some photos of some of the coasters. Noon brought our catered lunch of chicken and pork with lots of free sodas at lunch. Lunch was the usual talk of coasters and rides you liked. After lunch did a lap on DaJaVu and one last lap on Superman then headed for the car for the 8 hour drive home.
Goliath was running superb and I think they had it running at full speed during our ERS time. Because after our ride time it seemed the ride just didnt have the speed. So anyway it seems they have Goliath operating at a fantastic speed and it is such a great airtime ride.
DejaVu well all I can say is I remebered why I dont like to ride it after the first drop. I dont know I just dont like the style of ride that it is. Seems they could do so much more or better then that.
Other rides of note just the usual caught a few rides on Superman, just love the bottem of the pretzel, Scorcher well its just a fun little ride. Which looks like a kiddie coaster with Goliath over the top.
Thats about it for the trip it was a blast as usual. Thanks to the ECC for the invite and SFOG for the great day at the park.
I have a few photos up on my site from the day if you want to see go here http://www.johnnyupsidedown.com/eventSFG11.html

For all the coaster nuts out there you really have to get into some of the clubs as the private events are well worth it.

I've been thinking about this lately and year after year when new rides open at parks, these clubs are the first to get there and I read so much as to how they got so many rides on the coaster/attraction without standing in line and whatknot. I am so sold on this!!!

HEY BK2004
Like I always tell people membership has its prevledge. Not sure what part of the country you are in but there are coaster events all over the place. I have been doing events since 1999 and over the years there have been more and more events each year. Now alot of the parks have there own events along with several different clubs that have events. Seems that there is at least one event for every part of the country.

You can go to most ACE events as a non member of the club. It cost a few $$ more but it would get you into an event to see if you really like that kind of thing before you get the membership. If you see a coaster event that you want to try then contact the clubs area representatives and tell them you are somebody who is interested in joining and see if you could come to an event. The people at most of the clubs I am involved with are very understanding and most are very willing to help you out.

Anyway as I am sure most of you are familiar with my website and my travels but for those that want to see what kinds of things you can get to go do check out my events section of my website http://www.johnnyupsidedown.com/events.html . I have done all kinds of events and they are usually a blast.

How worth it is it to go to SFoG? I love roller coasters but have limited experience. I've been pretty much relegated to PKD, BGE, and I made my first visit to Six Flags America a couple of weeks ago (some fun coasters--really liked Batwing--but the park itself, not so good). My sister lives in Atlanta and I'm thinking about visiting her this summer. I've always had an interest in SFoG. How does it compare with SFA?
Thanks!

/\ Never been to SFA but I have been to SFOG and it's a fairly nice Six Flags park. One of the originals, so it is larger and nicer. Has a great collection of decent coasters too..and the new Goliath! Which people say is amazing!!

---------

Anyways, Thanks Johnny. That is a good idea. I am in the Charlotte Area (hence Heritage USA) and I do know ACE has an event every year at Carowinds near the end of the season. I could just go as a guest and see how everything is. ACE seems to be one of the larger ones with a lot of events. TPR is also getting up there with their UK trip and everything they are getting to do while they are over there. Like they went to Blackpool and one of the coasters are going to go down for re-furbishment but they are opening it up one night for an hour just for them. How cool is that? Haha...

EDIT! !W!O!W! You've been to a lot of coaster events! Fun stuff!!

I've been to 4 Six Flags (including SFA) and SFOG is the best of the lot I've been to.

They have a great coaster collection and this year their staff was a lot friendlier.

And Goliath is my #2 steel, so yeah it's pretty good.

Just bring your $15 for parking.

Thanks for the advice. If I go down to visit her I'll make that a condition of the trip! I've seen a video of Goliath and it looks amazing. I was a bit disappointed that it didn't follow the design of the SFMM version but it seems to have some unique elements all its own.
Wondering now if Goliath might replace Apollo's Chariot as my favorite coaster...
