Hotel Breakers?

For my first Cedar Point visit this summer, I was considering staying at Hotel Breakers. It has very mixed reviews, some say it's great, but some say it's awful. I want to make this trip as best as I can.

What do you guys think of Hotel Breakers? Should I stay at this hotel?

Well, I saw a couple of scratches on the furniture, although they were small. The quality is a tad below average, however, I was on the first floor, and I had a GREAT view of Wicked Twister.

The only good things I see about staying on-site are the proximity to the park and the early entry. Other than that I think it is a waste of money. Is the half hour or so early entry enough to get a good couple of rides on the few rides that are open , or is it just a waste?

Stay at Breakers Express. Its less expensive and its not a crapshot with the type of room you get. I stayed at Breakers once in the north wing and it was horrible.

Come on people. I need more opinions. I'm having trouble choosing the hotel.

Breakers Express was awfully hard to beat. The room was a standard basic hotel room, nothing spectacular, but comfortable. The price was very good, in my opinion, and you're close, and can get into the park quickly.

Be sure to note that during our stay, the hotel room was used as a necessity, not as the vacation itself. We checked in, went to the room and threw our stuff down, and hightailled it to the park. After the park closed, we came back, watched about an hour of TV, and crashed. The next day it was up, shower, off to the park, back to the park after 18 hours, collapse, wake up next morning, shower and check out.

Stay at the Breakers Express. It is on the other side of the causeway, so you'll have to drive to the park or take the shuttle, but the price is less than half of the Hotel Breakers, the rooms are newer, and you still get all of the early entry benefits of staying at a Cedar Fair owned resort.

If you really want to stay on-point and be able to walk to the park, stay at the Lighthouse Point cabins or cottages. I think the prices are pretty comparable, and Lighthouse Point will give you newer accomodations, more space, and in most cases a nice view of the lake.

I've never stayed at the Breakers personally, but I have worked in the hotel (merchandise dept.) and I honestly don't think the hotel is worth the money. Maybe the rooms in the new tower are better, but the older part of the hotel is run down and certainly not worth the money. Lighthouse Point, Breakers Express, and Castaway Bay are all much nicer for the money.

Okay, I'm leaning toward Breakers Express. Here are just a few questions I have.

How far is it from the park/how long does it take to drive to the park?

When you arrive at the park which entrance gates do you go through? The main gates or the ones near Breakers?

How is the pool/how big?

Breakers express is about 2 1/2 miles from the main gate at the park. Under most circumstances, you should be in the parking lot within 5 minutes unless you are traveling at a peak time, in which case it could take as long as 10-15 minutes because of backups at the toll plaza. The hotel is right on the other side of the causeway from the park.

When you arrive at the park, the closest entrance will be the main gate. You can drive around and use the soak city gate if you want, but its basically just a preference if you want to start in the front or back of the park. All guests can use any gate. If you use the main gate for early entry, just head to the Joe Cool Club entrance and they will just ask to see your resort ID/room key to gain early entry.

The Breakers Express has an average sized outdoor pool and whirlpool. There is no indoor pool.

Ok, thanks. I'm definitely going to Breakers Express. Breakers just seems not worth it.

I briefly worked at Hotel Breakers back in 2003. From an employee stand point I was miserable but I would still love to stay there one day.

Actually, I personally love Breakers. I've stayed there two years in a row now during opening weekend. I know that Towers is a very, very good section, because that is where I've stayed the last two years. I can't speak for the rest of the hotel, but Towers is definately nice. I also love the charm and atmosphere of the lobby and rotunda in the original area. The rooms aren't a major part of your vacation, just a place to sleep really. The rooms can be expensive, yes, but you are really paying for the closeness of the resort and its perks, just like if you were to stay at a Disney resort.

So yeah, BE is nice and has good rates, but man, I love Breakers and wouldn't stay anywhere else when I stay on Point. The 9th floor of the Towers offers some amazing park views. I was told I got the best park view in the hotel this year. I could tell you the room, but I'm keeping it to myself.

When staying at Breakers Express, go to the park extra early and have breakfast at the Breakwater Cafe (I think that is what it is called). If you spend more than $20 on breakfast, parking is free. Then you just go into the back entrace for early entry to the park. Can't go wrong.

I like Breakers Express as well. Just keep in mind that the cheaper the room, the more likely you are to find rowdy clientele.

I always make reservations for BE well in advance and don't know how quickly they fill up.

You can't go wrong with either but BE is a better deal. If you don't want to mess with any traffic after your long day then Breakers is great as you can actually walk to your hotel. I don't recommend Campers village unless you pay for the full hookup area and pay request the newer section...

It really depends on your intentions for the trip. If you're going to be there for an extended period of time, or want to relax and chill (not just go from ride to ride), hang out on the beach, dinner at Friday's and stuff... stay at Breakers. If you're going strictly for the rides, I'd recommend elsewhere (it will save you LOTS).
