SFGadv 6/19/06 El Toro Baby!

Me, two friends, and one of the friend's sister left around 10:30, got to the park an hour later and immediatly went to El Toro. It was closed, we were pissed but wanted to stay in the area just in case it opened so we rode Rolling Thunder after about a 10 minute wait. Then we went to Medusa. We waited about 15 minutes for a nice ride. El Toro was still not open so we went to Nitro, got on really quick, sat in the 8th row, awesome ride like normal. As we were walking off, we asked an employee if El Toro was open and she said yes. I dont think she actually knew because we walked all the way over and as soon as we got there, they were sending off the first test train. We waited in front of the enterance for about 5 minutes and then we were in. There were about 40 people ahead of us, we were on the third loaded train of the day, sitting in the 16th row of the train (first row of the last car, I made sure to sit in the back). What an amazing ride. This easily beats the KK/Nitro tie for my favorite rollercoaster. My little review is like this: I speed up the lifthill in a matter of seconds and before I knew it, I was getting yanked over that steep as **** drop which is unbelievable. That drop is probably the best element of any coaster. Crazy ejector airtime comes from the next two hills, like nothing I've ever felt before. The twister is just as good as the hills. Racing through those turns butterly smooth is great. The whole ride is just one amazing rollercoaster. A great choice for Six Flags.

Anyways, on with the day we were satisfied with our rides so we decided to wait out Kingda Ka. The line didn't look too bad, it just filled up the switchbacks. We got in line around 3:00. It broke down multiple times, rolled back during a test, and the loading was SLOOOOW. To make the breakdowns even worse, the mechanics would slowly walk down the launch track, joke around a little, do some stuff, then slowly walk back, I was getting so pissed off at how slow they were moving. I ended up getting off the ride around 5:30. 2.5 hours is absolutely crazy for a line filling up only the switchbacks. The worst thing is, they have to wait until both trains are ready to send them out, meaning they send out 36 riders every 8 minutes or so. One of my friends had to get back for his brothers graduation so we left.

I ended up being incredibly impressed with El Toro and totally unimpressed with Kingda Ka.
