We opted to take advantage of the fathers day deal. The group was my parents, 2 brothers and my niece. This was my niece’s first trip to Canobie. She’s 3 and over 36 in. so she was going to be able to ride many rides.
By the time they opted to get up and get ready and finally left the house it was 12. So we didn’t get to the park till 1. The only thing that made this not drive me completely nuts is that the park is now open to 10.
We pulled in and the parking lot was nearly full. It was going to be a busy day for the park. So we entered with 1 child ($18.00), 2 adults ($27.00 each), and 2 free admittance fathers. No coupons needed! My younger brother and I had ticket from opening day sale.
So we entered and since my dad needed to eat we headed for the Bebop Diner. Fathers got a free lunch voucher. The park was busy. Rides in site hade a one to two circuit wait, walkways were mildly busy.
I ran into one of the owner driving around with the head food manager. I asked him about the new ride and got some bass into. I also ran into his Brother. from what I could find out the Paratrooper was soled to
Blue Diamond Park in New Castle, Delaware. They got a little les then the $25K they were looking for. they will be sending some one to the Huss plant to inspect the ride in mid July. If all is right the ride will be shipped 3rd week of July and in the park hopefully by the second week of August. The ride will be given a 50’s theme to go along with the new look of the area.
Castaway Island, water play area, was packed. so we turned around and headed to the Dragon coaster. Since my parents and my niece were a few minutes form getting on the ride I hope over to Turkish twist for my fist ride. The best park is the two younger girls behind me haven’t been on the ride before and neither have the foreign family in from of me. So most of the riders made many comments when the ride got to full speed, and many screams when the floor dropped.
road the dragon coaster that my Niece loved and went on a second time I stayed off to take a few pics. My father went on the Jungle drop (S&S frog hopper) with my Niece before we headed to the Boston Tea Party.
Today was a day of meeting people that had never been to the park or haven’t in a long time. I talked to an older couple from Manchester, NH while I waited for the ride. Despite the length of the queue the wait was only about 15-20 minutes. Got complexly soaked! The couple that was in front of me was completely amazed by the stream of water it throws up in front of you.
check out Skater in its new location. After taking a few pics I hoped in line. The skater was down opening day do to a broken part. Things seemed to have worked themselves out. Not only was the ride running far better then last year. They were running a longer ride program, spinning the car in both directions. In turn the ride was well worth ridding and finally presented itself as a higher end model from the Rockn’ Tug.
I got off and rode over the rainbow with my family. Well minus my brother and Sister in law they had disappeared. From there we hit DaVinci’s Dream. Though my niece was under the height requirement there are 4 sets of seats offering a combined adult child seat, so she road in that. My niece’s a child of my own heart. She’s a little dare devil, and smiled and screamed her way through the ride. We all hit Caterpillar before we split up.
My brother and my plan was to hit the new 3 Hot Tickets show. We got there and realized we were a half hour early so I hoped on Pirate. Great ride but it takes to long to get to height. So you only get 2 or 3 full height swings before it starts slowing down. I was going to hit Timber splash since it was hot but the line was half was down. That means at least an hour wait if not a little longer.
3 Hot Tickets - I wish I could say I was impressed. I wasn’t! They promised “fast-paced mélange of a Chicago speak-easy, a Bourbon Street jazz club and a fine Parisian cafe.” They didn’t deliver. The girls were cute yes and they were reasonably good singers but not fantastic. I found the show a bit slow and I saw a number of people that left before the show was half over. The music selection comprised of songs form a few musicals which I barley new and most people will not know. The best known song was a pore and slow rendition of “Diamonds are a girls best friend.” an Elvis song was extremely similar to the harmony mix used on the Elvis show last year. The cast seems friendly though and went out of there way to talk to the audience that stayed. Later in the day they removed the staging that was there and installed a lot of the stage props form last years show.
We meet up with my parents at eh Kiddie whip. My niece was on her 4th ride and still road one time before we moved on. My father wanted to check out Skater so I rod that with him. This ride will need more Queue set up the small area set up not is no were big enough and they had set up some of those portable like stands.
We ate at Portafinos. We got two full Pepperoni pizzas ($15.65 each) and 6 drinks ($2.35). I think the whole dinner came to around $45 for the 6 of us. Sodas were a bit under filled. The pizza had a slight Garlic taste to it but was good.
We hit the Blue Heron lake Crouse which my Niece insisted was a speed boat. They are going in the opposite direction that they were from opening day. basically it heads out away from the park first and circles around along the park last.
From there we walked along and hit rides. We hit the Canobie mall. We went into the jackpot casino were my Niece played slots. She plays slots on the computer with my father so she really liked playing the real ones. We spend about $3 bucks and got about 195 tickets. But didn’t get any prize since there really isn’t much to choose from, we’ll maybe get something next time.
We made out way down the main midway Hit Star Blaster. Great ride only a 10 minute wait. crowds were lightening up. The Science show wasn’t performing today. Radio Disney was at the park. They were set up on the midway stage. We hit the Cannonball 20 minute wait. They have allot of trouble getting people to put on there seat belts. Perhaps many people don’t remember they are there and just sit down. But it slowed down every train. Also the line was a mess. People had left cups and trash on the hand rails along the platform wall. They really need to get this under control put a hole in the fence and install a trash can or something. The ride was great fast smooth and full of air time. This coaster is very much overlooked but the park needs a new coaster.
While exiting I noticed that the new handicapped exit had a new wall and allot of landscaping was adding in front of it. It looks allot better now
I noticed on the way that the Matterhorn was shut down. I will try to get official info about this since resent info point to a major problem that might lead to the removal of the ride. When we got to the western are the flume line was a bit long. my niece was getting restless so we skipped it for right now. She road the kiddie Flume which I find to be a waist of space. She showed no excitement and spent more time trying to figure out how it worked. From there we road Mine of Lost souls Dark ride.
The ride needs to be overhauled. I like the ride and the animatronics worked well but allot of the doors were not operating and were instead locked open. I think only 3 of the door were working right and the strobe on the Falling Rock wasn’t working. Also the last scene hasn’t worked in years and should be reworked into something else.
Since the line had gone down we jumped on the flume, almost walkon. I ended up ridding alone since my mother and younger brother didn’t want to go on. The water level was high and the boats were flying through the circuit. Good splashes off of both hills as well and of the 2 mid course drops.
walked over to the train. We got on at the central station by the Bebop Dinner/Skeet Ball. My niece knowing very well what a train is was saying trains and calling out “all aboard, choo Choo.” So were road this out and then back to the station. My father had never been on Whipout so I insisted he go on with me. So we walked over to the Whipout as the rest of the family went to get fried dough. My father really liked the look of the ride and had only been on a few rides like this. He was in for a big surprise. He was very impressed with the ride and when we got off he said come on and headed for the Round up. I normally end up riding this alone so it was a great joy to ride with some one. It was also nice to hit a few rides just my father and I.
When we met back up with the family they were a little upset and my niece was crying. It seams they tried to ride DaVinci’s Dream with my niece and were told she couldn’t ride. I guess the operator got yelled at for letting them ride before. I think him getting yelled at was more that two kids under height were in the duel seat and not an adult with the. So my niece though see was going on and couldn’t. I will bring this up on my next trip to the park.
Last thing was to get fried dough. We had Ice cream a little earlier but my 2 brothers and Sister in law didn’t want it. They ordered and got there 2 fried dough’s and drinks. They gave us a 3rd one for free.
So we ate and walked out of the park around 10:20. I finally saw the new entrance arch light up with the “Canobie lake Park” outlined in green neon.
Over all a good day. I hope everyone had as good a father’s day.
pictures coming soon.
