Geauga Lake 6/17 I am not a big fan of going to amusement parks on Saturdays because of the crowds. But because of my work schedule this is pretty much the only day I have to go most of the time. I thought Geagua Lake might not be too bad. My cousin and I both have Combo passes from Cedar Point and we were waiting for it to get warmer so we could take advantage of Wildwater Kingdom. We were going to try and go for Coaster EXTention afer Coastermania but we were dead anyway from that and Holliwood nights the weekend before. So we went to Castaway Bay that week. Our CP passes get us in for 15 dollars. That's a nice indoor park too, but that's another TR.
We drove up from Columbus around 6 am and stopped at the Steak and Shake for breakfast in Mansfield. I think this may be a regular stop for us when we go to the park now. S & S has the best hash browns. Ok now I'm getting off topic.
We had a free parking coupon that my father found in the Columbus Dispatch. So that was great that we didn't have to pay.
When we got to the park, I headed straight for X-Flight because I knew this would be the longest wait of the day. It only took about 10 minutes to get on a little after 10. Later in the day it looked to be at least a 45 minute wait. They had both sides open in the morning so that made it nice. As always I have to ride this by myself because my cousin is too afraid. Would someone on this site PLEASE tell him that the ride is perfectly safe and he WILL NOT fall out?!?!? Anyway...this is the only Flying Dutchman I have been on so I have nothing to compare it to, but it is nice and intense. It was a good way to start the day.
We also rode Head Spin. This gets your stomach if you sit in the back, esp. when you go backwards.
I am not going to go through the whole day in detail. Here is our ride count:
X Flight: 1
Headspin: 1
Steel Venom: 2
Big Dipper: 3...the back seat was full of ejector air.
Villain: 2--my favorite woodie at the park. This ride was pissed! Fast and rough on that trick track section, but in a good way. It actually seemed a little smoother this trip.
Dominator: 3...got to ride at night before we left.
Raging Wolf Bobs: 1
Double Loop: 2
Thunderhawk: 1....front seat...my ears were heavily banged.
Every coaster we rode was running 2 trains and Dominator had all 3 on.
All of the flats with the exception of Americana were walk-ons.
The water park was the most crowded part of the day. It was so crowded we only rode one water slide and the lazy river and the new wave pool. We just wanted to cool off, not wait an hour to get on a slide. That would have blown our whole day. I must say that the waves in the wave pool caught me off guard. They seem to go in more of a side to side motion than from the front. I can't explain it but it was fun--oh yeah and packed. People all over. I'm a lifeguard and you couldn't pay me enough to guard that mess. But I was not that upset over the crowds. Besides, CF needs the business for this park!
We also saw a Lumberjack show at the stadium and a magic show in the palace theater before we left. My cousin got a Steel Venom t-shirt, too.
If you want a nice sit down restaurant in the AC go to Beach Combers. Good food and a nice break from the park. They had a big screen TV with EPSN playing also.
I hope to go back for their Oktoberfest in Sept. Nice park since CF took over. Give it a chance.
