| | A Tough Decision.....Kennywood/Hershey/Knoebels or SDC/WOF/SFStL My dad said he would take me somewhere sometime in then next few weeks. And he said a place farther CP or SFGAm. I first said okay....lets go to WOF in Kansas City and stop by Branson/Silver Dollar City and St. Louis/SFStL. Then I said....All I that is there that i want to ride is Patriot-Mamba-Powderkeg-Wildfire-Mr. Freeze-Boss.
Then I said....Wait.....Last year when we were in Pittsburgh we didnt stop at Kennywood and I really want to see it. And when we went to Hersheypark the next day it was pouring. And all I rode was Lightning Racer and Sidewinder. Everything was closed. And so we left early and headed east to Philly and SFGAdv. So this time I thought we could go to Knoebels and ride Phoenix and Twister. And another question...Will the Flying turns be open in two weeks? Anyways....where do you think I should go....remember I live in South Bend, Indiana. you know....where the 2006-07 NCAA Football National Champions are from?

| | That's a tough choice.
It depends what you like - old school parks with a wide variety of things to do? Go to PA. Big thrill machines from B&M and others? Missou. Themeing? Missou again. Good wood? Try PA.
The flying turns will not be done until fall at the earliest.
Overall I'd probably pick PA myself.
PS - ND won't be able to win the national championship if they lose their first game to GT |

Flying Turns probably won't be open until later in the year, hoping around PPP time. Both trips will be great, but I am biased to my PA parks. Plus, they are so awesome anyway.

| | | One more Question......Is Storm Runner and Phantom's Revenge really worth a long drive? Or is Powderkeg and Patriot better.
And how does Phoenix compare to woodies like ST and Beast and Voyage?
And also.....is it just me or does Patriot's design look alot like Talon which I have ridden.

Storm Runner is the best Intamin Launcher. The Flying snake dive was oh so sweet.
Phoenix is in a league of its own. The coaster has great airtime in the front three cars of the train. Phoenix is my number two woodie after Voyage. Don't forget Twister, it's pretty sweet too.
I haven't ridden Patriot, but I don't rank Talon very high on my coaster count, there are better inverts out there.

| | | Quick, steel or wood? That should answer where you'll go. Of course, both places have both steel and wood, but the PA trip seems to excel with wood, while the other one is more for steel.

| | | And Phoenix is better then most steel coasters I've ever been on. That ride would make the PA trip worth it alone, not to mention all the other great coasters. I've never been to the other three (nor Kennywood). But based on the quality of Hershey and Knoebels the PA trip is the way to go. |

| | | I would go with the PA trip no doubt. SDC doesnt match up to any of the PA parks neither does WOF you can go anywere for those kinds of rides. Steel Phantom, Storm Runner, Lightning racer, twister and pheonix, jackrabit, racer, thunderbolt, the rest of kennywood. Its kind of one sided if you think about it. Wof has got patriot and why would you want to go to a sf park over parks with more class. For one of a kind rides and one of a kind parks the PA trip is deffinatly the beter trip. |

| | | The Pennsylvania trip has 1 more roller coaster than the other trip, and plus Pennsylvania is filled with top roller coasters as ranked by Amusement Today,
Phoenix #4 Wooden Coaster
Lightning Racer #9 Wooden Coaster
Thunderbolt #22 Wooden Coaster
Twister #25 Wooden Coaster
Jack Rabbit #28 Wooden Coaster
Wildcat #32 Wooden Coaster
Racer #40 Wooden Coaster
Phantom's Revenge #8 Steel Coaster
Storm Runner #34 Steel Coaster Other Trip
The Boss #36 Wooden Coaster
Timber Wolf #45 Wooden Coaster
Mamba #25 Steel Coaster
Powderkeg #40 Steel Coaster
Wildfire #49 Steel Coaster
This makes it obvious Pennsylvania is the better trip. Also, all the Pennsylvania parks have some of the best collections of flat rides around.

| | | I would have to go with the PA trip. But seriously, Hersheypark, Knoebel's, and Kennywood are all great parks. If you like woodies, go for this trip. There's eight of them between the three parks. There's also a great variety of steelies, too. A hypercoaster, rocket coaster, two wild mice, an inverted, a vintage Schwartzkopf, Vekoma boomerang, mine train, two unique kiddie coasters, and a very unique Setpoint water coaster.
Flying Turns won't be open until the Phoenix Phall Phunfest, at the earliest. It's nowhere near finished.
Storm Runner is definately worth the trip. It is better than TTD. The Flying Snake Dive is the best inversion element anywhere, on any coaster.
The Phoenix is great with airtime. I just couldn't compare it to the Beast. I don't think too highly of the Twister.
Yeah, Patriot's design looks a lot like Talon's. If you can, try and fit Dorney into your schedule. Steel Force is awesome! RIP Hercules
Hope this helps. |
