Since I'm the only one who likes it

I went to Coney Island last wednesday and plan to go again next Friday. I didn't do much on Wednesday, I just needed to ride a coaster in the onth of July. When I got there, I went right to the Cyclone, and rode in the front. Fun ride, good airtime, not too shaky, but high lats. Still, I love it. I then entered Astroland for some good flat action. I wanted to ride the Power Surge but it was.... gone. I asked the guy at the Top Spin booth, and in the best English he could, and hand gestures, he said that people came off the ride with bloody faces. I never found it to be rough. At least I rode it before. Then I looked at the pirate ship and noticed something. It was on steroids. Usually, I see swinging ships move so that the edge is just in the ride platform. On this one, the entire ship left at least 10 feet from the platform, if not more. I sat on the edge, and got floater as good as on Nitro. It's the best swinging ship ever.

next I wanted to hit the Top Spin, but they had the water on, and the weather was just right, so getting wet I would've been a bit cold. I moved on through the kiddie park, onto the boardwalk. It's so nice being able to sea the ocean. I looked at it for a while, then went into Deno's. They don't have as good of a kidie ride collection as Astroland, but they do have a Moser freefall, which is like an S&S frog hopper, but a lot better. After taking a spin on that, I went into the adult ride section. They have a drop tower, which I skipped, because I decided to wait until I brought my friends the next week. I've been on it before. They also have a thunderbolt, which I rode, and it was a really great ride. Better than a break dancer. So next, I went back to Astroland to ride the Cylcone more. I went for the back car and sat in the second to last row. Wow. It was a bit less shaky then the front, and the airtime is incredbile. The lats are brought down from painful to really fun. Then I re-rode in the middle car, last row. This ride was not shaky, it was just plain rough. The lats weren't as high as the front, but there was no airtime, the ride seemed to be way to bumpy, and it turned the Cyclone into Hercules. Do youself a favor, and don't ride in the middle car. But remember, each ride I also rode in a different row i nthe car, and when I rode in the middle, I rode in the last row of the car. So when I go on friday, I'll do some more investigation to see if it's the row or the car. But I did find it to be smoothest in the second to last row, so try that, it's the best seat.

Next time I go, I'll ride the drop tower and Top Spin, because those two are the best flats in the park(s). If you want to go next Friday, reply here. I'll have pictures from that trip. This trip was mainly to hold me off from going insane from roller coaster deficiency.

As for the actualy loaction of the parks: It's not crappy and dirty as everyone says. It is actually very clean. It looks old, that's all, because it is old. It's very carnival style, but the overall appearance is exactly what you would expect in Brooklyn. This is a city park, catering to New York City. The park looks like the rest of the city, old, not dirty. There is something special about every part of New York, and Coney Island has amuement parks andgreat beaches. Give the park a chance, look at it from a different persepcitve. You'll love it.

I had a great 40 minutes at Coney Island when I strayed from the tour group in the spring, and the Cyclone was fabolous in the 2nd last row. I will agree that it's nice being able to walk onto the pier and watch the ocean then go ride roller coasters, it's a lot of fun!

What!? Power Surge Is Gone!? That ride was awesome! They should have used different restraints, though.

Great trip report.

Power surge is a great flat ride. Palace playland at Old Orchard beach main has one. I road that think 17 times in one night. it's a blast. I really have no clue how some one would have gotten hurt on it. Little surprised something like that didn't hit the news.

The Moser Drop towers are really good for a proposed kiddie ride. they really are a family ride level attraction. I normally go on the one at LC.

if your getting 3 different rides roughness wise from 3 different seats then those trains need a bit of work. it's not the coaster.

Coney Island is a nice place. it's better then some Beach parks I have seen and they definitely have made allot of effort to make the place worth visiting. yes there are a few things that area run down or needing work but the city and the local owners are working hard to make things better. i find astroland better then denos. deno's seemed a bit pricey especially for Wonder wheel and Spook-a-Roma. but there are some surprisingly good rids like the flume at Astroland, Breakdance, Dante's inferno, etc.

Though i hated seeing the Thunderbolt get turn down the New ball park added allot of needed attention to the boardwalk and was designed very well with allot of the charm of the past coney Island.

I don't think it's the trains on Cyclone. I think it's which row of the cr it is. As I said though, I need to do some more investigation next time I go.

I have to ride Topspin the next time I go. It looked like one of the best programs I ever saw. I'm still wrestling with the dirty or old debate. I appreciate Coney Island and I always look for the chance to stop by now when I come back from JFK.
