| Sfgadv 7/17-7/18 Hey all, I am one day removed from a one night, two day trip to Six Flags Great Adventure. I went with two close friends, one a fellow coaster enthusiast, the other somewhat of a newbie. We had a graet time and really were fortunate with crowds. Although we caught some thunderstorms are second day, and the park shut down the rides for some time, we had very little wait times for anything. Wednesday had then 4000 people in the park!
El Toro 10/10.
13 rides total! It still remains my favorite coaster. The ejector airtime you recieve on it is in a whole other league of its own. It throws you over the hills while still being glassy smooth. On the rides we got through the day, I mostly prevented myself from getting stapled, sitting forward, but I do have a funny story to tell. We met a ride op are first night on El Toro that also was in to coasters. We were talking about him his coaster count, his thoughts on Maverick, and why he thought The Voyage was a lot better then El Toro. Well when the park closed, we were riding El Toro, He let us get an additional three rides. I had sat with my back straight and my hips up to allow my self some room. After he pushed down and walked away(or so I thought) I fell back into my seat, eagerly showing my friend how much room I had. All the sudden, I get this lap bar slapped down on me, and a loud "Gotcha!" from the ride op. Everyone was laughing. That was the only time he did it though. He was a cool guy, and we talked more the next day. The first day we had les then 10 minute lines, the second was virtually walk-ons.
Kingda Ka 8.5/10- 8 rides. We could hardly believe are luck when Kingda Ka was running four trains, two stations, with such short lines. We had 3-4 train waits each time. I love the acceleration, and all that, but the ride doesn't do anything for me anymore expcept a spectacular view. If your aren't towards the front, your head rattles too much for my liking, and I get some discomfort on my thighs. We saw a roll back on our last ride of El Toro as we pulled into the station, so we went running to it, but it was closed down. With my previous years of Kingda Ka, I noticed there were several times the train was barely making it over during this trip comapred to how it normally is.
Nitro 9.5/10
7 Rides. They were running three trains on Tuesday. It remains my second favorite coaster behind El Toro (although that may change after SFMM, Knotts in a couple weeks). It's everything you want in a B&M, reliable, airtime-filled, and smooth as butter. I find it very, very relaxing, cresting the hills so smoothly while floating.
Medusa 8/10
Horrible thing happened on one of my rides. I sat on the outside, right seat and my foot hit a tip of a branch ( don't know what you call them, but the trees with the sharp, pointy, needle like points growing out lol). It wasn't the actual stick part, but a good chunk of the sharp things gave me a small cut on my ankle. It freaked me out of course after the incident at SFKK and a girls foot being severed, so I was not happy. Truth be told though, I was swinging my legs back and forth, side to side during the ride, but still, after reriding it, my friends and I both agreed that they really need to prune that part, it comes dangerously close to another lawsuit. Besides that, Medusa is still a solid floorless with some great elements, and yes, its as smooth as ever.
Superman:UF 6.5/10
1 ride. The layout is just way too plain. The pretzel loop is amazing, everything else is very very tamed. It just doesn't cut it as solid flyer. I guess I would take Batwing over it at SFA.
Batman:TR 8/10
Two rides. It pulls some impressive G-forces, and is very intense. Obviously on the short side, but it does its job. I can't really ride it more then twice at a time; I blacked out teh second time on the loop. Only slight head banging.
We also went in to Hoodini's mansion which is still pretty cool.
One thing that is increasingly obvious about Great Adventure is the lack of flat rides (and how much they are dissapearing). It has argubaly the best coaster lineup, but it needs to full package to be complete. I was appalled that they took down Stuntmans Freefall, I liked it better then the S&S Towers. They could use a big drop tower, like PKD's, maybe even something bigger. Also, we were bummed to see Batman and Robin the Chiller down. I know it was closed for a good portion of the season last year, but I haven't kept up with its status. Why did they take out the Zero G Roll!?
Overall I had a great time. The employees were great, and the park was noticeably cleaner then in seasons pass. |
