Breakaway Beach & Casino Pier - 7/31/07

We arrived at Breakaway Beach at 11:00. We spent 2 hours going on 4 water slides, going on the lazy river, and that was basically all they had. The park was too small, and the slides weren't the best.

At 1:00 we left and went over to Casino Pier. I only had $7 left, so I couldn't go on many rides. My friends spent the rest of their money on games. On the board it said Star Jet was 8 tickets, so I spent $6 for it. I went over to Star Jet and it was only 5 tickets. I took the front row.

Star Jet - This looked like it would have tons of airtime, but the brakes seemed to ruin the ride a bit. I still got a little airtime, but most of it on the bunny hills at the end.

Rating: 6/10

I thought I had a dollar left, that would means if I bought another ticket, I would be one short. I found 52 cents in my pocket, and I had exactly enough, with only 2 cents to spare. I would go on Jet Star again. The person at the tickets apparently didn't know how to count, and gave me 3 tickets. I would choose between Star Jet and Wild Mouse, which was 6 tickets. I chose Star Jet this time, back row.

Star Jet - The back row was A LOT better, with tons of airtime, and the brakes were almost unnoticeable. This ride was above expectations and packed quite a punch for a coaster that small.

Rating: 8/10

We left the park at 2:00.

Overall, it was a good park, except for the fact we didn't bring enough money. I might go back this weekend, or in late August.

I might go to this park tomorrow. #250 is lingering for me. It wouldn't be Star Jet but the Castaway Pirates or whatever that spiral lift hill coaster is called may be it.

$15 wristband Wednesdays - I think I'm there.

^I thought only the water park gave wristbands. Oh, and it's Pirate's Hideaway.

Wow, I missed it by a day. I'm definitely going to go on a Monday.

Smile CHILLER gets Coaster #250

I just went to Casino Pier in Seaside Heights, NJ today to get my 250th coaster credit. Wednesdays are $15 wrist band days. The beach is free even. The last time I rode coasters in Seaside I only had enough change to do the looping portable I believe is called Rollercoaster at nearby Funtown Pier. I had to skip Star Jet til now. Pirate's Hideaway was my 250th rollercoaster. This little steel ride with a spinning spiral lift hill replaced what I heard was the legendary Wizard's Cavern ride with the same style spiral lift hill on the same site. This new coaster is very short and very dark ride like but it does not have any theming except on the exterior. I wonder what Wizard's Cavern was like. I'm just glad Pirate's Hideaway was not a purebred Wild Mouse.

Next up I went to Star Jet, the portable steel coaster. It gives you a view of being over the edge of the pier. There is nothing but the Atlantic Ocean over the edge. The curve of the first drop and the very high banking at the bottom of the second drop are amazing. It's one of the better shore coasters I've ever been on. The hills are pretty cool. There is not airtime really on this ride but with the kind of trains it has I'd call it the NITRO of the Jersey shore.

Afterwards I walked by an indoor Centrifuge and a dark ride with really nice exterior theming. My next ride was the Disko. The ride was just okay, not fast enough or rotating in a position I liked. After that ride I realized my wallet was gone! NO! - Not in the town that has Lucky Leo's Arcade! I haven't lost my wallet at a park in about 7 years. Luckily I was only on 3 rides. I went back to all three, asked the guys at Star Jet. I went to the park ticket window even to look. When I returned to Star Jet they had my wallet. Things look good still, I have everthing. Big relief.

For the rest of my time there I went on the Wild Mouse and the Hot Tamale kiddie coaster. The Wild Mouse did not forcefully jab me in all the turns. It looked like an older mouse. It was not very exciting but if it was it would probably hurt me. I liked the dive turns and the helix of the second half. The Hot Tamale probably did at least 5 circuits on the basic lift hill, downhill helix and bump hill layout. I was a little bugged after losing my wallet, so relieved to get it back, but still a little distracted from enjoying the rest of the time there.

I took a break from Casino Pier to put more quarters in the parking meter. On the way back in I walked through their arcade to take pictures of their carousel. The carousel actually still has a playing Wurlitzer Military Band organ. It was originally from my hometown of Burlington, NJ, the former carousel of the Burlington Island Beach Amusement Park that burned down in the late 1920's. This island is just under a mile from me. Pretty cool day. I walked up and down the boardwalk taking pictures and made my way to Lucky Leo's for a few minutes. I returned to Casino Pier for a ride on their Enterprise since SFGADV lost their Spinmeister Enterprise last year. Following that I had one last ride on Star Jet, clutching my pocket of course to watch my wallet. I have been careful for years since losing my wallet 7 years ago. I will continue to be very watchful again. I just walked by the water park on my way out. I got my 250th credit at least on this hot, hot first summer day of August 2007.

Good thing you got your wallet back. Did it like fall off on the silver walkway or something? Congrats on your 250th coaster.

Somehow within the 5-10 minutes I walked from Star Jet to the ticket booth by the Mini Golf it was recovered. Money, cards were there, the attentant I gave a tip, things could have been in worse shape.

Was there barely any people like yesterday? Someone could have pointed it out.

When I went to Kennywood, my friend left his wallet in the bin on Racer, and the wallet was there, but no money.

Not many people mid-day at all. Since there was this promo there was some day camps.

I wonder if the Centrifuge was a better indoor scrambler than the one formerly at SFNE next to S:ROS.
