In 1975, the park was founded by Eddy Meeùs and inaugurated under the name "Walibi Wavre". A decade later, in 1987, an aquatic theme park, Aqualibi, was inaugurated. In 1998, the park was bought by Six Flags, Inc, and, in 2001, Walibi Wavre changed its name to Six Flags Belgium. In 2004, the park was bought by Palamon Capital Partners, an English company. On November 7, 2004, Six Flags Belgium was officially closed and opened again under the name "Walibi Belgium" on March 26, 2005. In 2006, the park was sold to Grévin & Cie, a French leisure group.
