Sfa 5/26/08

I made my first trip to SFA this season today. It was my first day off work in a while and figured I had to take the chance to get to a park to ride some coasters, and get my Six Flags season pass processed.

I arrived at the parking lot around 10:30, The parking lot was empty as far as cars go; however, there were a huge number of buses packed with kids... And the water park was closed. Still, the lines weren't too bad all day.

The wait to get in the park went by much faster then in the past. The security and the ticket takers were fast and very friendly, a nice change from the old mean people I remember from the past.... This pleasant experience as far as the employees go persisted all day. I really felt like the park took a large step as a whole, I had nothing but nice experiences with the employees all day and they were always very friendly and running the rides pretty fast.

I started the day off on Wild One. The line went almost to the turnstile, but I was on in the front seat after a brief wait. The ride is just as good as ever. Very smooth and still has the same awesome spots of airtime and fun laterals in the final helix. Still one of my favorite woodies.

Two Face was closed and I was working on a tight schedule so I opted to skip Tower of Doom and left Southwest Territory, next I headed to Gotham City.

I was disappointed to see Superman only running the blue train, and the red train was no where to be seen near the ride. So it would be a bit of a wait. But I stuck it out for a front seat ride. I'm not sure if they did some extensive rehab work on the train (and thats why the red train is missing), but holy cow, what a great ride. The ride is running so smooth right now and it just rides and even sounds so much smoother. It really felt like it was running as smooth as the first couple seasons it was open, a vast improvement over the past couple years when it was really starting to become pretty rough. Every hill had great airtime, it was a great time.

I looked at the clock and realized that since I was leaving at 1 pm I'd have to be sure to get a ride on Roar next to make sure I didn't miss it (what a can I say, I really enjoy it). The station was pretty crowded, but it wasn't too bad of a wait before I was on the front seat. Roar feels about as rough as its been for the past couple seasons, but the moments of awesome ejector airtime make up for the rough spots imo.

I had enough time to get on one more coaster before I had to leave the park, so I headed over to Jokers Jinx. The line was extending out of the station, down the stairs. Unfortunately they were operating both trains, but the middle two trains were closed for both which lead to a lengthy wait. It gave a smooth and fun ride, though, so it was well worth it. Jinx is deffinitely a helluva lot better then FOF at KD and KI if you ask me.

After this I headed towards the exit where I got my pass processed before heading home.

It was a great short day. I was happy to see the park continuing to improve. The park is really becoming a much nicer place to visit all in all. I'm excited to make another visit very soon to get on all the coasters I unfortunately had to skip.

Halleluia! This ride has become the core of the coasters I do @ SFA along with Roar, and as I discovered my last visit; Wild One. My last visit Superman was running so rough I felt discouraged to return anytime soon because of gas prices and I developed a preference for SFNE. Great news for Superman.

Roar has always been a SFA favorite of mine, but it's sad to hear about its roughness. I'll believe you with Joker's Jinx. I showed more preference for it over Flight of Fear in the past but a 2006 ride on Poltergeist made me realize it's just alright, unless the wheels are running better now. Just like you I think I could manage a SFA visit without Batwing.

I've gotten used to it being closed the past couple seasons, seems to be closed more often then open when I visit.

The only way I'll take the time to wait for Batwing nowadays is if I have the entire day at the park so I won't mind waiting in line for what feels like an eternity. After getting out to KI last summer I really wish SFA could run Batwing like they run Firehawk. It was amazing to actually see the dual loading platforms being used well and having more then one train running...
