Rye Playland - 2008 - Photo TR

A few weeks ago me and my friend Rob went down to Rye Playland in New York (as well as Coney Island) - and CanobieFan member Freddie ( Viewing Profile ) came as well.

Anyways... On to the photos. (part 1 of 2)

Welcome to Rye Playland --- Now 60% less fun than years past.

The Old Mill dark ride (best dark ride in the park) was closed - 2 other people I know who went to the park in the weeks after I did also said its closed.. Hmm..

The park still looks nice. But the staff seemed very unfriendly

Zombie Castle was one of five rides to be removed over the winter, but it was saved.

We rode all 4 of the parks coasters that they let "big kids" on... Starting with the wildmouse.

(Part 2 of 2)

Catch a Wave replaced the parks deadly indoor Scrambler.

Family Flyer was open! (Its been closed 3 of my 5 trips to the park)

There were A LOT more police in and around the park than in past years.

Super Flight is still kinda... meh

And before we left, we made sure to ride the best ride in the park (and third best coaster in the state).. Dragon Coaster.

That reminds me of my trip there. Half the rides there were closed. I never got the chance to ride Superflight. It's the closest park with more than one good ride, but I don't want a Zamp to be my 101st coaster. And I don't see myself driving out to Hershey with gas prices so high. But then again, they'll only be higher next summer.

Dragon Coaster is good though. Gotta love the Morgan wood trains.

Great pics.

Wow your experience was just like mine in the past two years. Many rides had been closed for me. My first visit had Family Flyer closed for the whole time and thankfully SuperFlight opened just before I left so I could ride it. Last year their new ride Catch-a-Wave was also closed for me. Has that ever been open for anyone yet?

Dragon's a great wooden coaster for an oldie. It's much longer than you'd think. Mariah was also on that coaster too. hehehe

With those paths, islands and band shell this park is much more established than Martin's Fantasy Island. The County takes good care of the park.
