| Six Flags St. Louis 8/15/08 I had my first visit to six flags in St. Louis on Friday 8/15/08. I had gone to St. Louis. the night before to see Dolly Parton in concert at the Fox Theatre. I had been to Holiday World three times and wanted to try out another park while I was in the area.
My first observation was the entrance where you have numerous lanes each with a shack with an attendant to pay for parking. I have been spoiled by Holiday World's free parking but I honestly didn't mind as the parking lot was in very good shape. It was also huge! Looking at it from google earth the parking lot looks as big as the park! This might be common. At any rate i didn't pay extra for up close parking. That is a nice option too for those that may have trouble getting around.
My second observation was that the first thing I encountered upon getting close to the park entrance was security guards who were going through everyone's belongings. Then you had to go through a metal detector. Again, i guess being a small town dude I wasn't used to this. This doesn't happen at Holiday World or Dollywood. I was alittle nervous I admit. Then I convinced myself these procedures were for the safety of everyone. I started feeling excited again and was ready for the rides.
I loved the landscaping at the park. I thought the park was very clean and the theming was great. I went to get a locker at hurricane harbor first and was impressed with the landscaping along the path. The weeping trees were wonderful. I felt as thought i was on an island paradise. They had an attendant monitoring the visitors entering and exiting the water park to enforce the dress code. I had read six flags was trying to become more family friendly and not just be a teenagers' hangout. They did a good job. Every worker had a shirt on that said something like "help keep the park clean because this is where my family is too." I was there with a friend but I like a family atmosphere.
The overall feel of the park was cool but it was definitely more urban feeling than Holiday World or Dollywood. I am not saying that is bad or good, just different. There was pop music in sections and Christian rock in others, I believe I heard country music also. Anyway, on to the rides.
I rode batman first. I loved it! It was my first inverted coaster since hangman at opryland when I was a teenager. It was smooth and fun. I also saw the guys dressed up as batman, robin, and the joker. That was cool having super heros hanging around. Not everyone can pull off looking good in hero outfits. The guys and gals doing it were great. Wonder Woman was getting alot of attention!
The line for the ninja was too long so I went to mr freeze. The line went fairly fast. Boy that was a fast intense ride! It was really cool. Going backwards was a cool feeling. I enjoyed the ride but was glad it didn't last too long!
Me and my friend rode the ferris wheel next. Man it is a tall one. I see why they call it Colossus. Its fun to look out over the park from way up there.
Next we hit the scooby doo mystery swamp dark ride. I really like it. I am a big fan of dark rides. I enjoyed the scenery and shooting the scary monsters. The ride lasted quite awhile. I was very pleased.
We hit the log flume ride next. It was a walk on and I loved it. It also lasts quite awhile and I was very happy. Its a great family ride.
Me and my buddy rode the moon antique cars next. That was fun.
I was in the section of the park by the new Evel Kneivel woodie. I rode it and loved it! I loved the smell of all that fresh wood. It was a great ride. Not too intense but not too mild either. It is a wonderful addition.
We then road the Tommy G. Robertson railroad halfway around the park. It was a pleasant ride. We got off at the bugs bunny national park area.
Unfortunately it started to rain. We got on the rush street flyer and in the middle of the ride it started pouring down hard. Then there was a loud noise and we were all stuck up on the top of the ride! We were up there for about 20 minutes in a torrential flood! My shoes filled with water and I was freezing. Finally we got down. I thanked the mechanic.
I was on a time constraint and had to go. I didn't get to do anything in hurricane harbor or do any of the other rides. I definitely plan to go back again next summer at least once. I need to hit the boss, screamin eagle, tony hawks big spin, ninja, hurricane harbor and anything else i missed. I think six flags has a great park at St Louis. It was a different feel than i had been used to but I don't get around much! I wish them the best on their efforts to turn the parks around. It looks like they are making progress! |
