| | | Planning a Midwest trip in 2009 So I was thinking about doing a Midwest trip next year and wanted some input on some parks I should add or subtract or any other general tips. I haven't been to any of the parks I'm about to list.
I'd be driving from Richmond and thought I'd hit these parks in this order.
1st Day--Camden Park--West Va
2nd Day--Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom
2nd Day--Beech Bend
3rd Day--Holiday World
4th Day--Kings Island
5th and 6th Days--Cedar Point
7th Day--Waldameer
Other parks I considered but decided to put off for another time are Six Flags St. Louis, Indiana Beach, Six Flags Great America, and Wisconsin Dells.
Any suggestions or comments? Again, these would all be first-time park visits for me and I'd try to do it the first week in June. |

| | | You could hit Dollywood if you have never been there. It's only 30 miles from Camden Park.

| | | Nevermind. I had another brain fart today. According to rcdb.com it's only 188 miles but that still out of the way.

All parks i have never been to either except CP so i might make that same trip soon.

I really want to get to SF Great America at some point. So many parks I need to get to! |

| | | That's hardly a midwest trip. That's almost the east coast you've got there. What about Minnesota? Missouri? Iowa? Indiana I'll give you. I've finally accepted that Ohio might be part of the midwest, but West Virginia? That's a big stretch.
Sorry, I don't mean to nit pick or anything. This is a solid trip, but I wouldn't really call it a midwest trip without the heartland.
EDIT: Now the one you just posted, THAT's a midwest trip. But you should know, Valleyfair, MoA, and the Dells are not a short trip from the rest. You should do the Dells, MoA, and Valleyfair, then hit Arnolds Park and Adventureland on your way to SFGAm and IB.

| | | Well, I was originally going to call this a mini-Midwest trip. But Ohio and Indiana are definitely considered Midwest and I consider northern Kentucky to be practically midwest. West Virginia is merely on the way to my destination parks and I thought I'd stop off at a park along the way.
Edit to add:
I was considering making the parks in Missouri a separate trip anyway. I'm not even in the serious planning stages of a second Midwest trip as there are some other East Coast parks (Hershey, SFNE, Lake Compounce) I still need to get to.

| | | Being a deep midwesterner, I have always had a very hard time accepting anything past Illinois. IMO, the midwest goes as far east and west as the Central Time Zone.

| | | Waldameer will not take a day...you should really add Kennywood in to there...south from Erie to Pittsburgh.
Also, keep your eye out to see if Conneaut Lake and/or it's blue streak is up and running when you make your trip...going to waldemeer will bring you very close, and the Blue Streak is well worth stopping in for...just a classic.

| | | I think if you're doing Waldameer, you may want to hit up Kennywood, and depending on where you'll be going up in PA on your way back to VA you could hit up Hershey, Knobels, and Dorney...

| | | I'm going to do Hershey and Knoebels on a different trip in the spring. I was considering doing Kennywood but not sure yet. I was thinking about going there in a couple of weeks. |

| | I've been to Camden and its not worth your time! I assume you are getting a Cedar Fair Maxx Pass. I would suggest the following order
1. Carowinds
2. Dollywood
3. Beech Bend - do stop, they have a great woodie and a unique looping steel. But you might try this and Holiday world in one day.
4. Holiday World
5. SFKK - if there is a light crowd, I would think so in June, you can easily do this in 2 hours and be on your way to Kings Island for the rest of the day.
6. Kings Island
7. Cedar Point
8. Waldameer
You might also consider Niagra falls and the 4 parks near it, or even add another Cedar Fair park, Canada's Wonderland.
Check out this website I use for planning trips. www.coast2coaster.com Its got a map of the USA with the locations and direct web links to any place that has a roller coaster.
Have a fun trip, and welcome to Ohio!

| | | I've already been to Carowinds and that being the case, Dollywood would be a bit out of the way. I'm only going to Camden because of the credits and probably won't spend more than an hour or two there. Kennywood's back in the picture as I didn't get a chance to go there this month.
Thanks for the tips though and I'll check out that site at some point. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
