PTR: Six Flags Over Georgia 7-22-09

Here we go for my first trip report. For some reason, trip reports for SFOG were pretty rare, that is, until now. I strategically picked to go on a Wednesday, because that is my day off and I knew that the park would not be crowded on a Wednesday.

My Family and I were greeted by the beautiful front gate.

Goliath was the first thing we rode, knowing that the line would get long later in the day. The wait was only about 10-15 minutes. After conquering the giant, we headed down to Gotham City for a little taste of Mindbender, Batman The Ride, and Crime Wave. Unfortunatly, I forgot to get some pictures of Crime Wave. Mindbender was almost a walk-on, Batman was a 5-10 minute line, and was a little more intense in the next-to-last row. Crime Wave was a walk-on.

Ready for take off.

For some reason, you see this angle alot, and it's easy to get.

Still Closed.

Mr. Six Dance Party?!?

Does anyone else see rails on the top of the beam on Batman's lift?

Signage.

I took the liberty to get a great shot of Batman's second loop and the Gotham City Park sign.

We then headed over to the Cotton States Exposition for a ride on Superman Ultimate Flight, where the line can get long in a short amount of time. Superman had about a 15 minute wait, which turned into a 30 minute wait when it broke down and they had to move the third train from the left station to the storage shed.

It's a bird, it's a plane... no wait, there really is a plane.

My ride.

I decided to skip GASM.

After riding Superman, we decided we would eat lunch. We almost never eat in the park, so we then went out to the parking lot to eat lunch that we brought.

While we ate lunch, the weather decided to be a little unkind to us while a light rain started. Fortunately, the rain stopped before we finished eating.

After lunch, we got ready to re-enter the park and I took the chance to get a good shot of the SFOG skyline. We decided to go straight to Acropobia, mainly because it's the only real ride that all four of us ride, and because it's my favorite flat ride. The wait was about 20-25 minutes, so I took some pictures of iside the queue house. We then rode Dahlonega Mine Train, 10-15 minute wait, after that, Monster Mansion. Monster Mansion had a 30 minute wait which would have been an hour or more, had they not been running both sides of the station, something I wish they would do for Superman... Monster Mansion's line was so full that we had to wait in line in order to get in line. The good thing about using the duel loading station on MM is that the line is always moving. We were never just standing there at any point while waiting in line.

Parking lot shot.

Whoah!

Just in case you didn't know.

Taller than... all that stuff.

WHAT!?! Not taller than...

Orange roof. Oh, there's a sign too...

This picture came with a frame... Oh wait, that's the side of the station.

...Join the monsters at the Mansion, you're invited, to a picnic, monster picnic, where humans are allowed...

Don't forget to stay outta the Marsh, that's bad country...

That chili's hot!!!

Don't put that there!!!

Y'all come back, yeh hear?

More to come.

Monster Plantation/Mansion is awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed it when I rode it a few years ago.

When they re-named it mansion did they change the ride at all? I need to get back down to SFOG to get on Goliath.

As the new Mansion I only rode it. The characters looks so new and bright. From Wes' clues it became more political correct. (It's probably like losing the Confederate looking portion of the Georgia state flag. Some lines are no longer spoken I bet.)

Well the song has always said "join the monsters at the mansion" so it still fits.

This is only my opinion, but I think Six Flags was afraid that "plantation" would offend people (not that anyone ever said anything in the past 30+ years) and they went PC with it.

The story and progression and frankly all the dialogue is exactly the same from what I remember of MP.

If it was the same story and dialogue then it was fine. At least they didn't make it Bizarro Mansion.

Thats good if they didn't change things within the ride - only freshened them up a bit. I can't feel too bad about changing the name, this day in age people have to be PC... Even though you see the word plantation on state park signs off of highways and in history books i guess I can see where Six Flags was coming from.

After Monster Mansion, we headed back to the back of the park, this time I would ride Ninja by myself. I would have had to wait about three or four cycles to get on, but luckily the people in front of me weren't exactly up to the challenge, so they all let me in front of them. I really like the new restraints on Ninja, they really lessen the head-banging- especially if you're the right height. After I rode Ninja, we headed over to Dodge City Bumper Cars. With me being a NASCAR fan, I love these kinds of flat rides (go-karts, bumper cars, etc.). After waiting about 20 minutes in line, wegot on. I'm really impressed(kind of) with the capacity of this ride, mainly because the line used to be a 45 minute wait, now it's about 30 minutes. Mainly because of the amount of cars they run. There were a little too many cars out there for it to be as enjoyable as it used to be.

The Black Belt of Coasters.

Going Up.

Dodge City Bumper Cars.

Major Traffic Jam.

But I wanted to go the other way...

We then went over to Carousel Hill, where surprisingly all four of us rode the Riverview Carousel. It was a walk-on, which provided for a pretty long ride.

The Riverview Carousel.

There's some pretty horses...

My dad was lucky enough to find a horse that was a University of Georgia fan like him.

Still more to come.

I don't think I've ever done the carousel because I so rarely get to SFOG that I'm always "coaster! coaster! coaster!" but it really seems to be in a perfect spot on top of that hill.

I basically had that "coaster, coaster, coaster" point of view of SFA until recently.

Ater we left Carousel Hill, we headed down to Georgia Cyclone. Contrary to popular belief, I actually find Cyclone quite enjoyable. Cyclone is actually smoother than GASM, which has become almost unbearable. I also love the Cyclone layout.

Cyclone's station.

Don't forget to put your hands up!

After we rode Cyclone, we went over to ride the Georgia Scorcher. I love how B&M packed so much into a small, narrow plot of land. This coaster really packs a punch.

Scorcher's lift.

We then decided to ride the train around the park. We headed to the Rabun Gap Station and rode to Marthasville Station, then back to Rabun Gap; a round trip. Once we got to Marthasville, the train engineer apparantly forgot to stop at the station. We overshot the station by a whole train-length so we had to back up into the station. How often does that happen?

All aboard The Texas!

Splash! Well... almost.

A very forceful loop, where you'll kiss your knees if you're not careful.

Georgia Scorcher is like B&M's swan song follow up to the very basic looking and riding Shockwave/Batman:The Escape/Le Cobra model that they designed when they were on board with Intamin. I rode Le Cobra with that attachment to SFGADV's former Shockwave standup Batman: The Escape used to be but I really wished it had a corkscrew and enough drive and purpose to warrant the MCBR on that model that's really useless. Georgia Scorcher is very well done considering that. What a great evolution for the small standup model.

Great PTR. i have always liked SFOG.

True what you said about Mind Bender on my first ride I was holding my hands up. they gut pushed down in the loop and my elbow hit the side of the car.

That second vertical loop on Mindbender took me by surprise my first ride. No hands isn't the best plan, lol.

Sadly, this PTR is finished. I have uploaded most of my 129 pictures to the TNDB.
