Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit Now Open at Universal Studios Florida – HD Video

ORLANDO, FL.  August 19th, 2009 – Universal Studios Florida opened up their newest coaster to park guests this previous Saturday for the first time ever.  Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, built by Maurer Söhne, is a 167 foot tall coaster that reaches speeds of 65 miles per hour.  The 12 passenger trains ascend a vertical lift hill and complete the course while pumping out a rider-selected soundtrack.  The attraction has operated daily since the first public preview and has now been announced as officially open.  Guests can select one of 30 different songs for their ride and on-board cameras caption the action.   A high definition video showcasing the new coaster is posted after the break.

Rollercoaster game announced for iPod Touch and iPhone

PC and mobile game maker Digital Chocolate has announced the release of 3D Rollercoaster Rush, an update to the original PC Flash and mobile phone-based Rollercoaster Rush game.

Made specifically for iPhone and iPod touch users, it features 3D graphics and “life-like” coaster physics, it features 40 unique tracks located all over the world, and includes a race mode for each track.  In addition, the game takes advantage of the iPhone/iPod Touch’s built-in accelerometer for its game play.

Preview SeaWorld Orlando’s “Manta” Tuesday

ORLANDO, FL.  May 03, 2009 –  SeaWorld Orlando plans to allow park guests to get a sneak preview of their newest coaster this Tuesday at Noon.  Manta, a Bolliger & Mabillard “Flying Coaster”, officially opens on May 22nd.  The heavily-themed coaster dramatically changes the entrance to the park.  As guests stroll through the turnstiles, they will be greeted by a 12-foot manta ray with 32 screaming riders in tow.  The attraction also includes several immersive animal exhibits,  including over 300 different rays.  A video of the ride is posted after the break.

Theme Park Review releases Coaster Expedition Volume 6

Robb and Elissa Alvey’s Theme Park Review has shipped its latest DVD set, Coaster Expedition Volume 6, to those who have pre-ordered it, and made it available to the public for purchase.

The 3-DVD set, which contains over 3 and a half hours of footage from their theme park and coaster experiences from their Europe trip, among other things.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 coming to Macs

Macintosh-using coaster enthusiasts rejoice. Aspyr Media announced today that it will publish Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 for Mac computers.

Although this is the third installment of the Rollercoaster Tycoon series, it will be the first of the three to be published for Macs. The Mac version keeps the popular features of RCT3, such as the CoasterCam that lets players ride their own attractions, fireworks shows, night mode, and 170 different ride types. (more…)

Atari formally announces RCT3 expansion

Today Atari officially announced the first expansion pack for RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, the popular amusement park simulation game. The expansion, entitled "RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Soaked!" will arrive at stores in June.

As the name implies, this expansion pack will be geared towards water attractions. According to Atari, Soaked! will add over 50 new attractions to RCT3, including wave pools, aquariums, fountains, aquatic shows, and several new water rides. Players will also be able to customize their own swimming pools and waterfalls. (more…)
