In August, Orlando had a contest to find it’s newest “Smile Ambassadors” to find out all about Orlando in just 67 days. The two winners, Kyle Post and Stacy Doombos, beat out many applicants from around the world to win the title of “Smile Ambassadors”. Both are childhood friends and traveled to over 30 trips and ridden more then 600 rides.

Kings Island got rid of its dead celebrity display after some complaints.
The celebrities included Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger and NFL star Steve McNair. Kings Island spokesman Don Helbig said the park wasn’t trying to be distasteful.
Helbig said the park had a few complaints and decided to take down the display. It had not been open to the public.

A man wearing modified in-line skates traveled along the track of Mammuth, a wooden roller coaster at Erlebnispark Tripsdill in Germany.
Dirk Auer traveled over the entire roller coaster in a minute and reached 56 mph. His custom in-line skates had 16 wheels on each shoe and took him more than 100 hours to make. He spent two months planning the stunt.

Six Flags Great America, located in Gurnee, Illinois, played host to the latest attempt to set the Guinness World Record for largest shower and most people showering simultaneously at a single venue. Pert Plus, in marketing its latest product for men, joined with the park in this attempt.

Alton Tower’s Vekoma-built Corkscrew is being removed after 28 years of operation. Cleanup by staff has already begun and some odd items have been found, yet again at the English park.
A prosthetic leg, a diamond-studded wedding ring as well as 12 crosses were found on the site. It is not clear if the leg became detached during the ride or was simply left behind by a forgetful rider.

A 70-year-old Elyria, Ohio, man has ridden Cedar Point’s Millennium Force more than 1,000 times this season alone.
Bob Urmanic, aka "Single Rider Bob" because of his bright neon-green T-shirt displaying the words "Single Rider," reached his goal of 1,000 rides in a season on the 310-foot-tall coaster.

Cotton candy, French fries, elephant ears–you get the picture…it’s fair time again.
October 12th I headed down to the South Carolina State Fair, located in Columbia, SC.
Fairs have played a large part in my life (literally). I heard a story from my mother that when I had just been born, my Aunt and Uncle were contacted at (where else) but the North Carolina State Fair to let them know of my arrival. Soon, I would be making the trip to Raleigh as well to experience the sites and sounds for myself.

The word “attraction” at amusement parks now has a new meaning. Everland Park in South Korea has a new attraction. The 16 year-old elephant Kosik is making news and grabbing people’s attention at this South Korean park. Kosik can reportedly speak up to eight words in Korean, some of these words include: “Sit”, “Yes”, and “No”. (more…)

Space shuttle commander Eileen Collins, who is scheduled to go up in a return-to-flight mission this July, can handle the pressure of riding a spacecraft loaded with tons of explosive rocket fuel into space, and returning to a fiery reentry.
However, Collins cannot handle an amusement park thrill ride, such as a roller coaster or water slide.

Each weekend from May 20 to June 12, Disney will merge with the Star Wars universe at Disney-MGM studios to commemorate the third Star Wars prequel, which opens May 19. The events will be centered around Star Tours, the park’s Star Wars-themed simulator. (more…)
