When Milton S. Hershey created Hersheypark as a place of leisure along Spring Creek for employees in 1907, I doubt he would’ve envisioned what has become of his humble picnic ground today. Hersheypark opened with a baseball game and featured boating, picnic grounds and canoeing. In the following years, a merry-go-round and train were added. (more…)

Busch Gardens Williamsburg bills itself as an action-packed, European-themed adventure park with 17th-century charm and 21st-century technology. Squeezed inside over 100 acres are over 50 rides and attractions, including four roller coasters. Timberland Twister, the newest addition to Camp Snoopy in the Mall of America, opened March 15 after a preview the evening before featuring Chubby Checker. Camp Snoopy is only seven acres large and is entirely enclosed which makes it a difficult space to develop. There have been a lot of rumors over the years about what coaster the park would be installing next: Enthusiasts have been guessing everything from a tall ride that would utilize a lift through the ceiling or an Arrowbatic. The addition of a spinning coaster has not gained much coverage from the coaster community, but it honestly should have. The ride could almost be your general unassuming spinning mouse — except, of course, that it is not. Spinning mice are being installed at many parks (at nearly the rate of indoor water parks) but I ask you to take a second look at this one.

Practically every roller coaster enthusiast followed the construction of what would end up being the tallest, fastest roller coaster in the world: Cedar Point’s Top Thrill Dragster. At the end of the 2002 season, a gigantic tower of yellow supports and some maroon and white track started climbing skyward. It was big, but I didn’t know it was going to be this big. (more…)
