History
Top Thrill Dragster opened with numerous mechanical problems in 2003. It did not start operating somewhat reliably until approximately August 2003. In June of that year, Cedar Point was compelled to put up a page noting the status of the coaster due to its reliability issues.
Problems continued in 2004. Such issues in this year included problems with the launch cable. One incident with the cable injured several riders, where they were hurt by shards of metal.
The problems continued in 2005 when the ride was shutdown for most of September and October due to 2 seperate mechanical problems involving shipment of parts from Germany. The ride was delcared closed for the rest of the season on October 9th, after running only 3 days.
Originally, the ride vehicles featured decoritive props on the last car of each train, including an engine, wheels, and a spoiler. These props were later removed, and an additional row of seats were added to the final car of each train.
