• Canada's Wonderland announces Leviathan for 2012

The day when we see "B&M" and "giga coaster" in the same sentence has come. Canada's Wonderland announced plans to build a 306-foot-tall roller coaster for 2012. This will be B&M's first giga coaster. The company has not gone above 250 feet on any other design. The coaster is scheduled for a May debut.

    Name: Leviathan
    Height: 306 feet (93.3 meters)
    Speed: 93 mph (148 km/h)
    Length: 5,486 feet (1,672 meters)
    Descent: 80 degrees
Ride Time: 3 and 1/2 minutes

For more information about the ride, please see Canada's Wonderland website.

Wow. Just hope with that kind of speed they don't have to trim it to death.Love the name and trains. Very cool.

An out and back giga and an out and back hyper? Scratching my head, wait, that's not good for me.

I'm sorta with Leo on this one. I guess Leviathan seems to be more about speed, but really, they could have done better. It seems rather short as well.

They build Behemoth and now this? As interesting and exciting as it is that B&M is crossing the 300 foot threshold, I think Canada's Wonderland could have come up with something more unique. Their coaster collection isn't really anything to talk about.

Yeah I am really digging the name of the ride too. Next to Kingda Ka, it is probably now my second favorite name for a roller coaster. It is unusual to have two out and back rides, but I'm hoping it is like I-305: looks kinda generic but once you ride it you are thoroughly surprised. Yeah it is a bit short for 300 feet tall, but it is a new coaster at CW that isn't a clone. It earns points for that alone.

      I think this looks amazing!
For years Canada's Wonderland was looked over by Paramount and now Cedar Fair has realized the potential of the park.
And for those complaining about how soon they added this after Behemoth; you couldn't complain had they been put in 10 years apart like a certain other CF park.
    1. steel -
Okay, just stop it with this pointless complaining, seriously.
Have you even looked at the specs for this ride? This could very well be in the running for the number one coaster in the world. It's Millennium Force meets Bizarro built by B&M.
It looks NOTHING like Behemoth past the shape of its track! Compare it to MF if you want! Leviathan has a huge, steep drop (probably the longest in the world from a lift), followed by an overbanked turn, a low-to-the-ground speed hill, a camelback, another overbanked turn, a low-to-the-ground speed curve, another camelback, and a third overbanked turn before the brake run. That is nearly exactly the same as Millennium Force (huge steep drop, overbanked turn, low-to-the-ground curve, camelback, overbanked turns, camelback, low-to-the-ground curve, low-to-the-ground hill, overbanked turn). What's Behemoth? Hill, hill, hill, turn, hill hill hill, brakes, helix, turn, hill.
And saying their coaster collection isn't really anything to talk about? Seriously??? That's borderline ignorant. Sixteen coasters is something to talk about, even if a lot of them are clones. Behemoth is a consistently high-ranked airtime machine, and Leviathan is sure to be a high-ranked speed machine.

I feel very sorry for you if you're legitimately disappointed by this.

Are some comments hidden or something? Who is complaining? And even if someone is complaining, it surely doesn't warrant going off the deep end there. I think you coming way too left field there Steel. Some folks have said it favors Behemoth, which well it does. That isn't a complaint, it is an observation. A complaint would be if someone said the ride sucks big time or something along those lines. So, calm down some. I had to re-read these comments five times just to see why you went off the deep end there and nowhere do I see it warranted. That is not to say people may not make comments which warrant it, but so far all I have seen is observations. Not complaints....huge difference.

I'm certainly not expressing any disappointment, merely that I find it puzzling that they have made this move. There is nothing disappointing about the fact that B&M is tackling something of this size, it's just not quite the orthodox path that a park would take in building consecutive hyper coasters. I think it looks to be a highly exciting design, and I agree that it could very well compete with Millennium Force, as long as it's not trimmed/hindered as stated. As far as the park's coaster collection, yes they have a solid number, but if a park had 40 and only a handful were unique designs that didn't inhabit almost every park in the nation, it wouldn't be any more exciting. Hopefully by building Behemoth and now this, Cedar Fair and Canada's Wonderland are heading in a direction that would the park an international destination like Cedar Point.

It's not just on this site, it's in the whole enthusiast community in general. This site isn't as bad as some.

      God you're an idiot...

I mentioned the height, dear. Behemoth has hills and overbanks so that leaves us with... Nothing... Oh different trains... Oh it has the old ones? The ones Behemoth improved... OK SCORE!

If a park with an invert got a slightly bigger one with a different loop on it, people would be saying it's stupid. This is as stupid. It's stupid to think people wont notice it's the same... I'm not jaded nor did I want whatever you suggested I wanted, I just am sensible enough to realize this is what they built three years ago. Might as well get another SLC whilst they're at it...

No other park in the World has randomly built two of the same types of B&Ms (minus IOA obviously)... Why do you think this is? Because they have enough to choose from so you don't have to repeat rides maybe?

      Fool.
See, this is the reaction I got at CoasterForce. Can you see why I'm a little miffed at the enthusiast world at the moment? It's downright rude and whiny.
You guys are generally way, way nicer and more levelheaded than most enthusiast sites, and I really am grateful for that. Sorry if I snapped.

That's why I have gone to other sites and left. This is one of the only ones that I go to, and I've been learning a lot here and enjoy reading what is said, for the most part. I don't see why people can't be more positive and I appreciate the atmosphere on this forum. Thanks ladies and gentlemen!

I like the looks of this! I just wish they would've put the new train style on it.
Don't get the Behemoth comparisons too much...this seems to focus a bit more on high speed curves. It's like saying MF is too similar to Magnum.

Me too. I appreciate ThrillNetwork so much for that. Too many of the major forums are so condescending and bitter. They forgot that we do this because it's fun, because we love it. It's not life or death.

While I haven't had the chance to look at everything with detail, I think any addition to a park like this is great. The company obviously wants one of their highest attended parks in the chain to keep up with the times. So what if its the same manufacturer as Behemoth? B&M has really wanted to step up their game and this is how. Just think of it this way, it will at least be reliable and a people eater which means less down time, more rides!

After watching the POV video, I saw two instances of trim brakes.

One of our staffers is having an issue posting, he asked me to post his opinion for him.Joe R says: "I am totally in love with this ride. B&M has honestly never let me down when it comes to ride experience. I'm also very happy to see Beemer FINALLY taking some much needed risks. People on other forums have called this nothing short of a glorified hyper (which pisses me off). Intamin isn't the only maker of "quality" rides that go into and above the 300' mark now.In my opinion, this is B&M basically taking a huge dump all over Intamin. Those twp seem to be playing a game of one-up the other, and B&M has taken the lead and will continue to do so, so long as Intamin continues to have a lot of issues with their rides.Steel, I know what you mean about CoasterForce (Intricks on there if you havent figured it out :3). I swear if it isnt an Intamin, then it is comeplete **** to them."

At first I was pretty confused by this addition to the park; it seems so similar to Behemoth. However, when thinking about it, most people won't think of them as the same ride as long as they are different enough (which they appear to be). Also, Katie is right, this thing will be a people eater. And with two B&M Hyper/Giga coasters in the park there should be plenty of capacity on major rides.

Also, something to keep in mind is that this means B&M are now in the giga coaster game. So hopefully other parks will invest in some B&M giga coasters.

Trying this again and hoping it works. steel, what gave it away :3 Im a ***** there but not here so much cause Katie will kill me and I enjoy this forum more. Coasterforce you need to be a ***** cause that is the only way to get anything said. Hell, they ate still arguing that it looks too similar to behemoth. I told them to go to CP and look across the park. That argument is 100% invalid. The inly thing i have to say to you Graham, is that maybe Knotss is getting one via a package deal? i know they have a rumor for a new coaster addition.

^Hah, I think it was something in the other CWL thread that you also posted at Coasterforce. It's not nearly as bad as "the site which will not be named," but it is annoying. But their coverage of construction is so vast, their member base is spread out around the world enough that there's a lot of information about European and Asian parks, and they do their high-quality legal POV thing on YouTube, so I try to control myself.

I'm a little surprised we haven't seen more movement at Knott's. I guess it's because of the whole Windseeker debacle, but I hope this doesn't mean they aren't getting a coaster next year. Only major Cedar Fair park without a megacoaster. It's time...
