Over the past few weeks, not one, but two babies have started to roam and explore the 65-acre enclosore known as the Sarengeti Plain. A baby Cape buffalo, weighing approximately 45 pounds at birth, was born on September 21, 2011. The calf now weighs about 75 pounds, and he will eventually grow to weigh almost 2,000 pounds.
On September 19, the Stable Antelope herd welcomed a new baby as well. She took her first steps just a few short minutes after birth, and she was running fast enough to run with the herd just a few short days afterward. She is the third new baby for the herd in the last month.
Busch Gardens is also home to Kasi, recently voted the "cutest zoo baby." If you haven't checked out the few month old baby cheetah, and her best friend, a Labrador named Mtani, their photos are also below. Both are housed, not on the Plain, but in Busch Gardens' new Cheetah Run exhibit, directly adjacent to Cheetah Hunt, the fast-paced, multi-launch roller coaster.
If you'd like to see some awesome photos, check out the ones attached below. For more information, see the Busch Gardens website and the St. Petersberg Times.
