• Bird Collides With Rider on Kingda Ka

On Thursday a bird collided with a rider on the Kingda Ka roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ.

The juvenile male who suffered only minor injuries to the face and neck, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The collision occurred at 4:45 PM on the return hill that leads into the ride's final brake point.

Kingda Ka is the tallest roller coaster in the world at 45 stories, 456 feet tall. The ride reaches speeds at up to 128 miles per hour.

The park notified the State of New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and was cleared to reopen the ride thirty minutes later.

It sounds like it happened during the braking of the ride and hopefully going considerably slower. It would've been disasterous for it to happen near the end of the launch and moving at full speed or close to it. Althugh I would think any bird would have enough senses to notice the noise and vibrations and fly away.

Hopefully the bird didn't have a nest on the support beams somewhere otherwise they'd be liable in that case.
