Less then a week after announcing a new Tornado waterslide for Six Flags St. Louis, Six Flags has announced that SplashTown will be the next park to receive one of the giant water rides.
SplashTown’s Tornado will open on April 30 with the opening of the park. Until opening day, anyone who purchases an AstroWorld season pass for $59.99 will receive a free season pass for SplashTown, normally $44.99.

After recent years of little growth, Legoland California saw its revenue and visitor numbers skyrocket during 2004. Attendance increased 9 percent from 1.3 million to 1.42 million visitors, and revenue rose by 11 percent. Legoland attributes the increases to 5 new attractions and new restaurants that opened last year, as well as special privileges for annual pass holders. (more…)

Proposed in 2001 by Anton Stephens, the development of the Leisureville theme
park has been stopped. This is believed to be based on the decision made by
Ontario’s government to no longer support gaming facilites.
Anton Stephens, a Toronto businessman, wanted to utilize a harness racetrack
and a gaming facility to launch the theme park. Unfortunately, the plan fell
through due to the groups inability to complete applications required for gaming
and racing licenses.

Construction crews at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay fitted and secured into place the highest track portion of the park’s new dive coaster, SheiKra, 200 feet above ground, setting the mark as the tallest roller coaster in the state of Florida. Upon fitting the piece into place, a ceremonial evergreen was placed atop the newly secured track segment. (more…)

A new waterpark is coming to the Canadian city of Winnipeg, but not a waterpark in the classic sense. Though it will feature the staples of other waterparks, this new facility will include high-end amenities such as a spa, a hotel, and a restaurant.
The Northern Riviera Water Park and Spa, with both indoor and outdoor attractions, will be open year round. The waterpark section of the complex will include a 370-square-meter (3983-square-foot) wave pool, a play lagoon, several waterslides, and a 135-meter (443-foot) long lazy river. (more…)

Financing problems have once again pushed back the planned opening of the Steamboat City theme park in Georgia until at least 2007. This delay has local government worried that the park might never come to fruition.
What hurts the local government is that they received almost $2.5 million in governmental grants to extend sewer and water lines onto the property from Glynn County. The grant was contingent on the park providing 1,700 jobs to the local economy. Some officials are worried the money might be rescinded.

It’s happened for the past nineteen years, but it won’t this year. Disney has abandoned plans for the star of the Super Bowl to do promotional advertisements proclaiming "I’m going to Disney World!".
Former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms was the first to utter the phrase after the 1987 Super Bowl. It quickly became a pop culture fixture after every Super Bowl game. While America’s top theme park has cut out the ad this year, they have not ruled out bringing in back in 2006 or the near future.

Six Flags Marine World in California is the latest amusement park to offer an interactive dolphin encounter to their lineup of activities. Guests will be able to also view other marine creatures up close an personal for the first time at the park. (more…)

Paramount’s Carowinds is looking to fill in all of their summer part-time jobs starting this Satuday, January 29th. The Charlotte theme park is looking to hire 1,500 seasonal employees.
Applicants must be at least 15 years old. Carowinds is looking to hire in food prep, rides, admissions and games. Also, the park has a few openings in their marketing and guest relations departments.

The Hurricane Harbor waterpark at Six Flags St. Louis is building a big new addition. Tornado, already found at three other Six Flags amusement parks, will open at Six Flags St. Louis in late spring.
On Tornado, guests will start off 75 feet in the air and travel in 4-person slides down a dark, 132-foot tunnel before being dumped in a swirling funnel 60 feet across. Tornado waterslides were named the best new product in 2003 by International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA). (more…)
