Current policy in Florida is that the state regulates carnival rides while allowing the bigger amusement parks to regulate themselves. However, after 63 illnesses, injuries, or deaths on rides at the state’s parks in the past four years, some are pushing for the state government to take a more active role in ride regulation. (more…)

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. – The Moscow Boys Choir performs at Dollywood’s Showstreet Palace Theatre on Dec. 3-4 as part of the park’s new International Sounds of Christmas concert series.
Founded in 1957, the Moscow Boys Choir is Russia’s most prestigious boys’ choir. The group boasts a repertoire of new and vibrant carols from Russia, Europe and North America, many of which are sung in their language of origin. The choral ensemble features a careful blend of heavenly soprano voices with the rich resonance of bass, tenor and baritone sounds.

A 7-foot-long, 350-pound baby orca was born on Thanksgiving
eve at SeaWorld Orlando. This is the second calf for mother Takara, who gave birth around 10:30 pm at
Shamu Stadium. The sex of the calf is yet to be determined. Visitors can get a glimpse of the calf beginning today. (more…)

Six Flags’ embattled leadership surrendered today, accepting a vote to replace company CEO Kieran Burke with Dan Snyder, Chief Executive Kieran Burke with former Disney executive Mark Shapiro and Chief Financial Officer James Dannhauser with Dwight Schar. The vote was verified today by an independent group picked by Six Flags, and is effective immediately. (more…)

Australia’s Dreamworld amusement park is getting a waterpark. Park owner Macquarie Leisure Trust announced plans today to build the $56 million attraction starting at the beginning of 2006 and finishing by December in time for Australia’s summer. (more…)

After claiming to have won a shareholder vote that ousted Six Flags’ top three executives, replacing them with Snyder and two associates, Snyder filed a lawsuit late Tuesday to confirm the result and force Six Flags to agree with it. Snyder claims his motion received 57 percent of the stockholders’ votes. (more…)

Derry Township, PA officials approved several new water rides for Hersheypark yesterday. The attractions still need to be approved by the county and would open for the 2007 season.
Park officials have not revealed the exact details of the plan, but waterslides, pools and water play areas would all be included. If approved by Dauphin County, the amusement park would begin construction on the rides this year.

Dan Snyder announced today that his proposal to replace Six Flags’ three top executives has won shareholder approval. Snyder’s Red Zone company said that the plan has received 57 percent of the vote.
If the final ratification of the votes confirms that Snyder’s proposal has received a majority of the votes, Six Flags’ three head board members will be replaced by Snyder himself, former Disney executive Mark Shapiro, and chairman of NVR Inc. Dwight Schar. Snyder would become Six Flags’ chairman, Shapiro would be chief executive, and Schar would assume the title of chief financial officer.

The park isn’t slated to open for another 18 months, but the first ride is already on its way. The cowboy-themed Wild West World in Park City, KS, will receive it’s first ride this week, a 50-foot-tall log flume.
The park’s other rides will be added in summer. Wild West World officials will spend $10 million to purchase rides, including two roller coasters, from Chance Morgan and Zamperla. Sewer lines and storm drains have already been installed.
