China in the midst of a theme park boom

Despite the industry only being 20 years old, China has seen a boom in their theme park industry. Experts say that the next five years may be the biggest yet for the country.

Most of the theme parks have been joint ventures between private investment groups and the government. They have been developed in areas with well-rounded economies.

Character actors, stilt walkers, fire eaters, magicians, contortionists, variety acts and side-show freaks are needed for several new freak show experiences. Those with unusual and creepy skills are strongly encouraged to apply!

Hong Kong Disneyland to miss attendance goals

Hong Kong Disneyland is expected to fall short of its goal of 5.6 million guests before the theme park’s one year anniversary in September.

Company insiders say the park has just pulled in over 5 million guests and an avergae of 18,000 per day, just about half of the park’s capacity. Hong Kong Disneyland has been criticized for being expensive while not having very many attractions.

Theme Park plans uncovered for northern Michigan

A Michigan newspaper has uncovered submitted documents to the government of a proposed theme park in Grayling, Michigan. The park would entail 1,800 acres of land and cost $160 million.

Both the government and company, Axiom Entertainment, declined to comment on any negotiations. The park would employ 2,000 seasonal workers and 700 year-round workers.

Woman injured after falling from coaster at Magic Springs

A 45-year-old woman was injured Saturday after riding the Twist and Shout roller coaster at the Magic Springs amusement park in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Police say that Felicia Robinson of Memphis, Tennessee was riding the small roller coaster when the centrifugal force of the ride pushed her out of the car and caused her to land 15 feet from the ride. Robinson was taken to the local hospital where she is currently listed in stable condition.

Six Flags seeks new loan terms

Six Flags Inc. has reported that it was close to violating the terms of its $1.03 billion in loans and is now negotiating with its lenders to loosen these terms through the fourth quarter of 2007.

According to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Six Flags is looking to change the restrictions on the amount of debt it can have corresponding to the cash flow it generates and also reduce the minimum amount of cash flow it must generate in proportion to interest expense. The company has also asked for its lenders to waive some of the second-quarter financial requirements of its loans.

Man dies after riding Goliath at SFoG

A man died after riding Goliath at Six Flags over Georgia on Thursday. He came back into the station unconscious and was later declared dead at the hospital.

The incident occured around noon on Thursday. Park medical employees were treating the 45-year old man for cardiac arrest when paramedics and firefighters took over and drove the man to the hospital.

FunTown/Splashtown USA plans waterpark expansion

Funtown/Splashtown USA is planning it’s largest expansion in park history for the 2007 season. The park will add two waterslides, a ProSlide Tornado and a new mat waterslide.

The waterpark expansion is a multi-million dollar investment, according to the park. They won’t say the exact price of the investment. Funtown/Splashtown USA is the latest park to follow the growing trend of waterpark expansion in order to attract more guests. A few major slides cost less than building a medium-sized roller coaster, making waterpark investments an easy choice for parks.
