Joyland pulls out of deal to acquire Libertyland

It is being reported that the proposed developers of Libertyland have halted their efforts.

Michael Moodenbaugh, one of the proposed developers, is stating that the park is in worse shape than he and his fellow developer were led to believe.

Joyland Amusement Park had received approval on December 19 of a non-binding letter of intent that would have made way for the Wichita-based park to invest $5 million in the park over three years.  The original letter of intent also included the option to buy the property, but the City Council changed it to a leasing option.

Universal bans trans fat from parks

Universal Studios theme parks banned trans fats from all its three amusement parks in California and Florida. A Universal Parks & Resorts official said the parks will remove the artery-clogging fat and add healthier menus. Universal said some snacks, though, will still be cooked with the fat until the end of 2007.

Cedar Fair announces $83 million in additions

Cedar Fair says Kinzel will stay through 2012

Chairman and chief executive officer of Cedar Fair looked to be leaving the company as early as January 2008, but Richard Kinzel has signed a new contract keeping him on-board until 2012.

The new contract was revealed in a December 15 regulatory filing and it guarantees Kinzel a minimum of $1.2 million annually.

Myrtle Beach Pavilion’s The Attic bites the dust

The inevitable finally has happened.  The famous original building at the Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park most know as The Attic is now a pile of rubble as demolition of the park continues.

In the later years of the park, the building housed The Attic teen dance club and an arcade.

Kings Dominion expands waterpark, lowers prices

X-car Coaster heading to Wild Escape

Wild Escape Theme Park in West Virginia has announced their first roller coaster set to open in 2007. The park has contracted Maurer Söhne to build a custom layout X-car coaster.

Owner Steve Minard has announced that the ride will feature the tallest inversion in the world, but will not specify the height. The coaster will be part of a ride package that will open in 2007.

Magic Mountain to remain open

In June, Six Flags announced that it was considering selling several park, including Magic Mountain. Yesterday, Chief Executive Mark Shapiro says that he wants to keep Magic Mountain as an amusement park, though he has not ruled out selling it to another park operator. A decision whether to sell the park will be decided by year’s end. (more…)

Son of Beast loses its loop, trains change

KINGS ISLAND, Ohio – The State of Ohio’s Department of Agriculture released today its final report detailing the outcome of the extensive Son of Beast inspection. The report reaffirms initial indications that the incident was an unforeseen single event failure.
