Mystery Mine reveals its secrets

Friday the 13th of April dawned cold and full of you might say, a little mystery in the air.  I was on-hand for the official opening and media day for Dollywood’s latest $17.5-million dollar steel coaster “Mystery Mine”.

In true Dollywood tradition, Dolly Parton herself was on-hand to debut her park’s newest attraction.  After the initial media interviews and preliminaries, the crowd that had gathered was ready to take on the mystery that is Mystery Mine.

Euro Disney still losing money, but less of it

Euro Disney, the company which operates the Disneyland Resort Paris complex, has long been suffering financially. On Friday the company reported that it had still lost money in the period from October 1 of last year to March 31 of 2007, but less than it did during the same period in 2005-2006.  (more…)

Disneyland builds coalition to block housing

The debate over a move to build 1,500 condos in the special resort district around the Disneyland Resort escalated this week when the Anaheim City Council voted 3-2 to approve a zoning change that would permit the condos to be built. On Thursday, Disney and a coalition of local business and politicians, including Anaheim’s mayor, announced a petition drive for a referendum to reverse the decision. (more…)

Hersheypark Is Turning 100. Let the Celebration Begin!

To celebrate this remarkable milestone, a rededication of Hersheypark is planned for Saturday, May 5, the centerpiece of the Park’s Grand Opening Weekend, which is May 4 through 6.

The rededication festivities will begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and include a congratulatory speech by The Honorable Pedro A. Cortes, Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Former Hersheypark general managers will be introduced and representatives from a number of Hershey entities also will be in attendance to extend their congratulations.

K’NEX Presents Physics Day at Six Flags Over Texas!

There is no better way to learn than to apply educational concepts to real life. For almost 30 years, Six Flags Over Texas has provided a ride-related workbook for students to work through during their visit.

The workbook contains activities like data collection and analysis applicable to Math classes, as well as Physics concepts like Linear and
Rotational Kinematics.

Walt Disney Co. taps two new directors

Walt Disney World announced that it has named two new directors in the company’s public affairs division on April 17, 2007.

The company has announced Eugene Campbell as the new Director of Community Relations, replacing former director Diane Ledder. In turn, Nancy Gidusko will replace Campbell’s postion as Director of the Minority Business Development Department.

Red Devil goes over the edge as Cliff Hanger

Maggie Valley, NC – Ghost Town in the Sky, Western North Carolina’s mountain-top theme park has completed renovation on one of the most unique roller coasters in the United States. 

Now known as “Cliff Hanger” (formerly Red Devil) the 56mph, O.D. Hopkins Associates, Inc.- built coaster has been completely sand blasted and has had each of its joints thoroughly tested and inspected.  The Cliff Hanger will boast a new corn husk yellow track, chili red trains and a navy blue station.  These colors will also be used throughout the park and mirror the park’s logo.

Geauga Lake to offer swimming lessons to season pass holders

A Season Pass to Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom just got wetter and better! The popular amusement and waterpark has announced that it will be offering swim lessons this summer for its Season Passholders.

This summer, kids ages 3-10 who have a Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom Season Pass will have the opportunity to learn how to swim from the park’s experienced lifeguard staff.
