Fiesta Texas set to soar with Goliath in ‘08

The opening of "Goliath," the ultimate inverted coaster, will add a powerful new dimension of thrill technology to an already astounding coaster line-up at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in 2008. Set to open in spring of 2008, "Goliath" will feature a unique radiating blue steel track and high-speed yellow, blue and orange trains that suspend riders from the coaster track.

Hersheypark heats up for its 2008 season

(HERSHEY, PA) — Hersheypark hosted a record-breaking Centennial season in 2007 as guests were introduced to The Boardwalk at Hersheypark, the perfect spot to cool off. Now the heat is on as construction begins on the Park’s 11th roller coaster, “Fahrenheit,” which is scheduled to open next May. The new ride will cost approximately $12.1 million.

Six Flags St Louis turns Evel in 2008

Continuing its tradition of providing park guests with new and exciting thrills each season, Six Flags St. Louis announced today plans for its latest addition: Evel Knievel. This $7 million wooden wonder is unlike any of the park’s existing eight coasters. Evel Knievel, the park’s third wooden coaster, is a compact twister by Great Coasters International, Inc. which will present an impressive visual from I-44 and a formidable challenge in person.

Cypress Gardens and Wild Adventure sold

Cypress Gardens Adventure Park and its sister park Wild Adventure Theme Park have both been sold to different bidders.

Land South Holdings will be the new owner of Cypress Gardens and Herschend Family Entertainment (who operates Silver Dollar City and Dollywood) will be the new owner of Wild Adventure.

The ride is over at Geauga Lake

Geauga Lake’s coasters and amusement rides won’t be back for 2008, parent company Cedar Fair announced Friday afternoon.

“The market demand simply isn’t there to support the park in its current structure,” Cedar Fair spokeswoman Stacy Frole said. She said Wildwater Kingdom, the $25 million water park Cedar Fair built on the south side of the lake, “has really been the most popular attraction at Geauga Lake. We believe that’s where the property is going to succeed — as a water park.”

Kima Bay splashes into Holiday World in 2008

Kima Bay, in Splashin’ Safari, will feature seven water slides plus more than 100 water-play elements, including more than 125 water jets. The four-story interactive structure will be topped by a 1,200-gallon ever-filling, ever-tipping bucket of water.

Cedar Fair reports slight decrease in attendance

Via Press Release — Cedar Fair Entertainment Company (NYSE: FUN), a leader in regional amusement parks, water parks and active entertainment, today announced that combined 2007 revenues at its parks through September 3, 2007, were $828.4 million, on 18.5 million guest visits and average in-park per capita spending of $40.30.  The 2007 results include the operations of the Paramount parks, which the company acquired from CBS on June 30, 2006. Vertical theme park planned for England

Developers in England are planning a new theme park, but this time they are going vertical!

The 650-foot tall VerTiPlex, which will be located in Birmingham, will also be the fourth tallest tower in Europe.  The park expects to pull in an estimated one million visitors per year and create 650 full-time jobs.
