Disney re-releases DVD showcasing history of Disneyland

Disneyland without a doubt influenced and changed the amusement industry from the day it opened until today.  Disney has released “Walt Disney Treasures – Disneyland – Secrets, Stories & Magic” an updated version of their 2005 previous release of the same name. (more…)

Disneyland receives new monorail train

Disneyland is getting a makeover up above your head.  The park received its first new monorail train in over twenty years and installed it Thursday.

The new train arrived beginning Monday and took about an hour and 15 minutes to be hoisted onto the track.

Conneaut Lake Park auctions office equipment

Things at Conneaut Lake Park seem to be going from bad to worse.

January 3 at 2 p.m. the park will host a sheriff sale auction to pay off a bill of $3,132.81 owed to Sysco Food Services of Philadelphia.

Items up for auction include a surveillance camera system, a desk unit, a copier, fax machine, filing cabinets and other various office equipment.

Michigan’s Adventure posts Thunderhawk construction photos

Yesterday Michigan’s Adventure posted new construction photos of the progress on Thunderhawk, their first coaster to be built at the park since 1999.

The park’s photos show general site work is well under way and footers have started popping up all along the snowy ground.

Maintenance chief blames Intamin for Kentucky Kingdom accident

The maintenance chief at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom has placed blame for the accident on Superman Tower of Power squarely in Intamin’s lap.

John Schmidt said in a deposition that the Intamin AG-built drop ride should have been designed with an auto shutoff in case a cable broke.

Man dies after riding Expedition Everest

Walt Disney World reported a man died Tuesday after riding Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom.

Disney said Jeffery Reeb, 44, appeared to be unconscious and unresponsive when the train he was riding arrived back at the station.

Park personnel immediately rendered CPR to Reeb, and contacted Reedy Creek Emergency Services and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Cedar Fair stock hits five-year low

Last week, Cedar Fair’s stock hit a five-year low at $21.08. Despite hitting the low, the stock has increased in dividend pay over the last few years.

Cedar Fair would not comment on the stock’s slump, other than saying the price depends on investment philosophy. The news has been part of a wild ride for the stock lately. Over the summer, reports had an investment firm helping Cedar Fair go private, which the company denied.

Congress rejects federal oversight of theme parks

Last week, the House Energy and Commerce Committee rejected a measure last week that would allow the government to monitor theme parks. However, they have promised to schedule a hearing on the subject matter.

The panel rejected the bill by a measure of 25 to 10. Rep. Ed Markey of Massachusetts continues to push for the regulation, which would give oversight to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Bipartisan arguments say that the issue needs more study and that the regulation is expensive and unnecessary, given that amusement park/carnival fatalities are very rare.

Busch to continue free military admission program

Busch Entertainment Corp., the operators of Busch Gardens and Sea World, will continue to give active military personnel free admission to their parks. To date, the program has given out nearly 4 million free admissions.

The program, dubbed "Here’s to the Heroes" launched in the winter of 2005 and has been wildly successful. It gives one-day admission to military personnel and up to three family members for free. The only Busch parks not included in this program are Discovery Cove and Aquatica, which will open soon in Orlando.
