Kings Island loses $20 million Son of Beast case

An appeals court has ruled an insurance company for the defunct Roller Coaster Corporation of America does not have to pay Kings Island $20 million. The ruling stems from a 2005 case over an accident on Son of Beast.

Kings Island sought the money from Admiral Insurance since RCCA had went out of business. RCCA’s commercial liability policy did not include "coverage for harm to the project itself".

Playland to put an emphasis on safety

After a few accidents in the past few years, Playland Park plans on being more proactive in warning guests of dangers of not being safe at an amusement park.

Among the plans include staff passing out literature to guests entering the park and improving staff training. Other improvements are being implemented that were recommended in audits of the park’s operations.

Wild West World finds prospective buyer

Wild West World, the failed theme park that opened and closed last year in Wichita, has found a potential owner.

Murphy Brothers Exposition of Tulsa, Oklahoma has filed a motion to buy the park with a bankruptcy court. The purchase price is said to be $2 million. Murphy Brothers would like to open the park by the end of summer, but the park has been in a state of disrepair since it closed in July of 2007.

Great Escape norovirus outbreak declines

A viral outbreak at Six Flags Great Escape Lodge &
Indoor Waterpark has begun to slow down, officials report.

The norovirus outbreak at the Queensbury, New York attraction has been an increasing
concern for visitors. Health officials tested clincial specimens and detected
norovirus, also called Norwalk
virus.

Hard Rock Park’s ‘Sound Check’ begins April 15

Myrtle Beach, SC – Hard Rock Park is gearing up to rock the beach announcing today that it will go into “Sound Check” on April 15 when the public will be allowed in to sample the Park’s rides, shows and attractions for the first time.  During this three-week “rehearsal,” visitors will become a part of rock history as they get to check out the world’s first rock ‘n’ roll theme park has it springs into life.

Attendance flat for Southern California parks

According to reports, Southern California parks had little to cheer over for 2007 as attendance remained flat.  Disney’s California Adventure seems to continue its slide as it experienced a significant drop in visitors according to figures released by Themed Entertainment Assn. and Economics Research Associates. Things change quickly in the fast lane at Hard Rock

Tweetsie Railroad fire destroys shops, museum

The Depot building at Tweetsie Railroad caught fire early Sunday morning.  The fire, which was ruled accidental, might have been started by a lightning strike.

The Depot was destroyed along with a souvenir shop, a food stand and a first aid station.  Most importantly though, the museum was gutted and along with it so many pieces of history from the Blowing Rock, NC park that has entertained families for over 50 years.
