Cedar Fair reports attendance and revenue

SANDUSKY, OHIO, – Cedar Fair Entertainment Company (NYSE: FUN), a leader in regional amusement parks, water parks and active entertainment, on September 9th, reported that its 2008 revenues through Labor Day increased approximately $21 million, or 3%, to $852 million when compared with the same period a year ago.  During this time, attendance rose 3%, or 547,000 visits, while average in-park guest spending, at $40.24, and out-of-park revenues, at $87 million, were comparable to last year.

Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede second annual Whoadeo

Coney Island’s Astroland closing for good

Astroland at Coney Island is closing for good, the park’s owner announced.

The park’s lease expires Jan. 31, and though previous negotiations worked out, park owner Carol Albert said the property owner won’t meet with her to discuss the lease. Thor Equities, the property owner, desputes Albert’s story.

10th Aniversary of Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Get ready for the biggest Howl-O-Scream season ever as Busch Gardens celebrates a decade of spooky thrills in 2008. Beginning Friday, Sept. 19 and continuing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 26, Busch Gardens’ fall “spooktacular” takes Halloween scares to a whole new place with attractions and shows starting earlier in the day.

HalloWeekends Returns to Cedar Point

SANDUSKY, Ohio — With new scary attractions, live shows and children’s activities, HalloWeekends at Cedar Point will be bigger and better than ever before.

In addition to an expanded entertainment package, the Sandusky, Ohio, amusement park/resort’s 12th annual fall frightfest will also be extended to eight weekends, the longest haunting season in the event’s history. Beginning Friday, Sept. 12, HalloWeekends will be held Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays through Nov. 2. It will be the first time in Cedar Point’s 138-year history the park will be open in November.

2008 Golden Ticket winners announced

The 2008 Golden Ticket Awards were announced today, with Cedar Point winning Best Amusement Park, Schlitterbahn winning Best Waterpark and Ravine Flyer II winning Best New Ride of 2008.

The Voyage claimed the top wooden coaster spot, and Superman Ride of Steel at Six Flags New England got Best Steel Coaster.
