Get a leg up at Alton Towers

Alton Tower’s Vekoma-built Corkscrew is being removed after 28 years of operation.  Cleanup by staff has already begun and some odd items have been found, yet again at the English park.
 
A prosthetic leg, a diamond-studded wedding ring as well as 12 crosses were found on the site.  It is not clear if the leg became detached during the ride or was simply left behind by a forgetful rider.

New Universal park will be cool, literally

Gilroy Gardens extends contract with Cedar Fair

California’s Gilroy Gardens has announced plans to continue its management contract with Cedar Fair Entertainment Company for another two years.  The City of Gilroy owns the land the park sits on and the majority of its physical stock, but the park’s board leases the management and marketing of the venue to Cedar Fair, whose contract was set to expire in February 2009. Six Flags to report quarterly, Halloween results

Six Flags announced it will hold a Web cast teleconference for analysts, portfolio managers and investors on Monday, November 10, 2008.

Six Flags, Inc. has announced that it will hold a teleconference for the quarter ended September 30, 2008, and through Halloween weekend for analysts and investors at 9 a.m. Easter Time on Monday, November, 2008. Participants in the conference call will include President and CEO Mark Shapiro and CFO Jeff Speed.

Calif.’s Granite Park hits snag

Granite Park, an entertainment project in Fresno, Calif., which was supposed to bring life to a neighborhood, is on hold.

The park opened four restaurants but may cost taxpayers $5.5 million. The city might sue the developer.

Of the land’s 42 acres, 18 are home to Granite Park Kids Foundation, a nonprofit that got a $5.2 million loan through the City Council. But the foundation hasn’t made a payment in a year, and the bank may foreclose the property. If it does foreclose, the city will have to pay the loan, which is at $5.5 million now.

Celebration City closes for good

Celebration City in Branson, Mo., closed for good Saturday, its last operating day of the season.

Herschend Family Entertainment said it is exploring different concepts for the park. Some ideas are an aquarium, retheming the park or having retail and dining on the site.

SFMM building Terminator: The Coaster

Six Flags Magic Mountain announced Terminator: The Coaster.

The Great Coasters International woodie is opening in 2009. It willl feature five hills and six banked turns, a loading station fly-through and on-board entertainment over 2,850 feet.

SCarowinds – A behind the screams tour

It was a dark and scary Carolina night. There was a harvest moon overhead and blood-curtailing screams could be heard through the woods.

This could be the start to a backwoods horror story, but it actually is the story of your fearless ThrillNetwork editor Wes Connell heading to SCarowinds to take a behind-the-scenes (or maybe we’ll call it behind the screams) tour of SCarowinds.

Transformers comes to Universal Studios
