Cypress Gardens to close for transformation

Cypress Gardens announced Sunday November 9th that the park will close on November 16th for a several month transformation.

The park will lose its rides and animal sections. Park officials thought running a park with four different aspects was too much for the property. They will move the park entrance back towards its original location, add additional parking, and expand the current waterpark.

Soon The Happiest Place on Earth may feel more like 1984, with big brother or big Mickey in this case, knowing exactly where you are at any moment.  

Walt Disney Co. has made an agreement with Verizon Wireless that will allow the parks to remain in wireless contact with park patrons, even when they leave the grounds of the Anaheim and Orlando resorts.

Drayton Manor Theme Park welcomes one millionth visitor in 2008

In a year which has turned out to be a phenomenal success, the UK’s Drayton Manor Theme Park passed a major milestone in mid-October when the one millionth visitor in 2008 was welcomed to the Staffordshire venue.

Six Flags profits rise 60 percent

For the third quarter, Six Flags Inc.’s profit was up 60 percent, thanks to higher revenue and reduced costs.

 
The theme park company, had a net income of $143.5 million, compared with net income of $89.7 million during the same time last year.

Man rides Maverick 1,000 times in 2008

ThrillNetwork member coasterell was on-hand for a special occasion one week before closing weekend at Cedar Point.  Lance, also known by some as Maverick or Magnum Lance hit 1,000 rides on Maverick and coasterell was on the train when Lance made his personal record-breaking ride. (more…)

Grinchmas celebration at Universal Studios

A traditional white Christmas and an encounter with the not-so-traditional green Grinch await guests at Universal Studios Hollywood as The Entertainment Capital of L.A. prepares to celebrate “Grinchmas” with tons of powder-fresh snow, meetings with The Grinch, Cindy-Lou Who and Max the Dog and a “Whoville” jubilation at the original movie sets where the classic “Dr Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” was filmed.

Discovery Kingdom unveils new tiger exhibit for 2009

Via Press Release: Last week Six Flags Discovery Kingdom unveiled plans to create Odin’s Temple of the Tiger — an exciting new exhibit that will showcase the park’s 11 tigers including Odin, the internationally-acclaimed white Bengal tiger and two recently acquired tiger cubs.  The attraction is scheduled to open in spring 2009 in the park’s LAND area.   (more…)

Great Wolf Resorts Announces New CEO

Great Wolf Resorts, Inc. (NASDAQ:WOLF) , North America’s leading family of indoor waterpark resorts, announced that Kim Schaefer, currently the company’s president and chief operating officer, will become chief executive officer, effective January 1, 2009. Randy Churchey, who has served as the company’s interim chief executive officer since May 2008, will resign from that position on January 1, 2009 and remain as a director on the company’s board.

Six Flags faces stock exchange delisting

Six Flags received a second letter from the New York Stock Exchange warning it that it could be delisted from the stock exchange.

Six Flags already faced delisting for its low share price in a first letter, and the second letter warned it of its low capitalization.
