Superman at SFNE, T Express take top honors

Mitch Hawker posted the results of his steel and wood coaster polls.

Superman: Ride of Steel at Six Flags New England topped the steel poll, and T Express at Everland in South Korea got No. 1 wooden coaster. Superman won last year’s poll and the 2006 poll. T Express opened in March.

Six Flags AstroWorld: A Look Back – Part Two

So in Texas, I can officially say that it is Winter. About two weeks ago, it snowed in Houston. Like, real snow, as in frozen precipitation that’s definitely not sleet or hail. And although it’s now currently a balmy 79°F as I write this, and with Christmas days away, it truly is Winter! Now, associating snow, winter and Houston often creates an odd mix, but at one time, a place in Houston was able to pull it off, and in an exciting matter at that. If you ask someone who’s lived in Houston for most of their life, many people remember one of Houston’s biggest winter events at Six Flags AstroWorld called Holiday In The Park.

Legoland California begins Holiday festivities

LEGOLAND California kicks off its holiday celebrations this weekend, December 20th and 21st.

 

The tenth annual Holiday Block Party, which is presented by Volvo Cars of North America, will run Dec. 20 through Dec. 30, 2008 and will end on a bang with a Kids’ New Year’s Eve party on Dec. 31. Many attractions will be glittering with lights, including the world’s biggest LEGO Christmas tree.

Geauga Lake Carousel to be refurbished and moved

Cedar Fair announced the carousel of the historic former Geauga Lake amusement park will be refurbished. The refurbishment will get underway early in 2009. The ride will then be moved to another Cedar Fair park.

The Sandusky-based Cedar Fair already knows where the hand-carved, 1926 vintage Marcus Illions carousel is going but declined to comment where at this time.

Hard Rock Park still without an owner

After months of waiting, the wait is still not over for Hard Rock Park.

A Horry County official stated that there was no winning bidder for the Myrtle Beach theme park and in here words: “No one now owns the park, now it’s in the hands of the court.”

Hard Rock auction begins, ruling expected tomorrow

An auction began Monday for bidders interested in purchasing Hard Rock Park, but it is unclear how many bidders were involved – or who they might be.

A judge is slated to rule on the auction Thursday, when the winning bid will be made public. The auction took place in the New York offices of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker.

Disneyland Resort makes annual passes more affordable

Anaheim, Ca- As Disneyland Resort celebrates the holiday gift-giving season, a newly launched Monthly Payment Program for Annual Passholders will make it easier for Southern California residents to have their own frequent Disneyland Resort celebrations in the year to come.

Arrow co-founder dies

Karl Bacon, a co-founder of Arrow, died last month. He was 98.

Bacon and partner Ed Morgan opened Arrow Development Co. in 1946. Bacon was a self-taught engineer, and Morgan manufactured for the firm.

The team built a merry-go-round for the city of San Jose. Then they were contacted by Walt Disney. He wanted them to build some rides for a theme park he was opening.

Kennywood president resigning

Kennywood’s president will resign at the end of the month, the company said.

But Peter McAneny, 56, will stay on to help with the transition in ownership to Parques Reunidos. He will stay on for an undetermined time.

The Spanish-based company bought Kennywood and other parks in the chain in June. Before Parque Reunidos bought the park, it had been owned and operated by two families for more than 100 years.
