Cedar Point will host a triathlon and half-triathlon in 2010.
The race will begin at Hotel Breakers, and racers will swim into Lake Erie from the Cedar Point beach either 1.2 miles for the half-Ironman or 2.4 miles. Athletes will swim a loop out into the lake then back to the beach and continue with the next leg of the triathlon on bikes.

A University of South Florida placekicker was hurt Saturday at Busch Gardens Africa when he fell 35 feet from a Skyride gondola.
Maikon Bonani hadn’t locked the door on a gondola, and it left the station. He noticed and held on as it climbed. Two of the passengers tried to pull him into the gondola, but he fell and landed in some bushes.

A Cedar Point seasonal employee, who is working his second season at the amusement park and was reported missing when he failed to report to work last week Saturday, has been reported found in the Detroit area.
Rolland Hamiel, 20, of Oak Park, Mich, was last seen at work on Friday, but failed to report to work the next day.

The Wallenda family will once again be featured at Kings Island on Saturday, August 15 when Nik Wallenda will perform a high wire walk as part of his 2009 Walk Across America tour, which is taking place at various Cedar Fair parks. Nik is a grandson of legendary high wire artist Karl Wallenda

Nickelodeon has decided to address the rumors of a possible Six Flags New Orleans take over. In a press release, Nickelodeon wholly denies any notion that the entertainment company is in any discussions with Six Flags Inc. concerning the purchase of the park. the statement does, however, affirm the company’s interest in seeking licensing arrangements in the theme park business. No deals have yet been made.

Cedar Fair Entertainment Company announced it will hold its quarterly conference call for analysts and investors on Tuesday, August 4 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time.
Cedar Fair will hold its 2009 second quarter earnings conference call for analysts and investors on Tuesday, August 4 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Participants in the conference call will include chairman, president and CEO Dick Kinzel and Vice President – Finance and CFO Peter Crage. The call will be broadcast live as a listen-only webcast on cedarfair.com. Individual investors may also listen to the conference call at earnings.com.

Six Flags Great America, located in Gurnee, Illinois, played host to the latest attempt to set the Guinness World Record for largest shower and most people showering simultaneously at a single venue. Pert Plus, in marketing its latest product for men, joined with the park in this attempt.

Southern Star Amusement, Inc., which has been pursuing the opportunity to take over the former Six Flags amusement park property in New Orleans, is continuing to move forward with their efforts.
Danny Rogers, founder of the company, and long time amusement park veteran, stated, “As we have previously discussed with various city officials and area civic leaders, we wish to actively include the community in our rebuilding efforts.” Rogers continued to say that Southern Star Amusement has now opened a section of their website that will allow potential vendors to apply for placement on their qualified vendor list. “We would like to utilize as many local vendors and suppliers as we can. Of course, quality, availability and pricing will remain as key selection criteria, but area vendors will receive preferential treatment.”

A monorail train running at Walt Disney World crashed into the back of another train early Sunday, killing the driver of one of the trains according to an amusement park spokesman and a witness interviewed by CNN.
The crash occurred about 2 a.m. at one of the monorail stops at Walt Disney World, said the witness, who requested anonymity.
