Disney to offer free admission to volunteers

Disney apparently wants to spread the happiness from the “Happiest Place On Earth” to the rest of the planet.

Starting January 1, you will be able to sign up to volunteer for a day with a participating organization.  After your service is completed and verified, you’ll get a one day admission to Walt Disney World or Disneyland for free!

Smile Ambassadors embark on Orlando for 67 days

In August, Orlando had a contest to find it’s newest “Smile Ambassadors” to find out all about Orlando in just 67 days.  The two winners, Kyle Post and Stacy Doombos, beat out many applicants from around the world to win the title of “Smile Ambassadors”. Both are childhood friends and traveled to over 30 trips and ridden more then 600 rides.

Kings Island removes dead celeb display

Kings Island got rid of its dead celebrity display after some complaints.

The celebrities included Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger and NFL star Steve McNair. Kings Island spokesman Don Helbig said the park wasn’t trying to be distasteful.

Helbig said the park had a few complaints and decided to take down the display. It had not been open to the public.

Cypress Gardens closes, to find new buyer

Cypress Gardens, once a grand theme park before the days of Disney, announced that it would close and search for a new buyer.

Land South Adventures, the current owner, said the park was no longer financially viable and explored every possible way to keep the park open in its original form.  Land South has said they are negotiating with several different buyers.

Cliffhanger ready to roll

ghosttownCliffhanger is finally rolling again.  After operating for only one day this year, Ghost Town in the Sky finally got the all-clear today from the North Carolina Department of Labor’s Elevator and Amusement Devise Bureau to open the coaster.

SFOG expects to open Saturday despite floods

Six Flags Over Georgia employees are hoping to have the park open Saturday as floodwaters recede.

Northern Georgia and metro Atlanta have been inundated with record-breaking rain the past few days, flooding and closing roads. At least seven people have died.

Chang at SFKK being removed

Chang, the second-tallest stand-up coaster and largest coaster at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, is being taken down.

The park has begun dismantling Chang as it readies to expand its water park. The expansion will be the largest in the water park’s history.

Two injured on Xcelerator

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Xcelerator at Knott’s Berry Farm in California recently was closed after the launch cable snapped and injured two riders.

When the coaster at Knott’s launched, the cable broke and cut a 12-year-old boy’s leg. A man also was hurt. The train then rolled back into the anti-rollback brakes. The ride was shut down following the injuries, and California Occupational Safety and Health is investigating. The train was not full.
