News: Kemah Boardwalk partially reopens

Posted Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 at 2:58 am by Jimmy B

Kemah Boardwalk has recently taken its first steps towards recovery since Hurricane Ike severely battered the boardwalk in mid September.

Many of the restaurants have resumed operations earlier this month and just last week, Boardwalk Bullet was back up and running as well as the games attractions and retail stores.  Landry’s Restaurants Inc., owners of the Kemah Boardwalk, hope to have more rides and attractions up later this month.

Hurricane Ike slammed onto the Texas coast Sept. 13, making a direct landfall at Galveston as a category two hurricane with sustained wind of 110 MPH and passed over the eastern side of the Houston area.  It was the costliest storm in Texas history and third costliest ever in North America, causing more than $31 billion in damages.
