News: Update: Judge clears sale of Hard Rock Park

Posted Thursday, February 19th, 2009 at 2:18 pm by Wes

Hard Rock Park is on track to rock and roll again this summer after a judge approved the sale of the park for $25 million on Tuesday.  FPI MB Entertainment which hopes to close on the sale by the end of today, plans to reopen the park by Memorial Day.

A federal bankruptcy court judge in Delaware, Kevin Carey, called the price adequate and the process rigorous. Several potential buyers emerged in the past week after the bankruptcy trustee recommended the sale be made to FPI. The judge did not allow an auction Tuesday.

FPI wants to keep the Hard Rock brand but has agreed to destroy any Hard Rock-branded merchandise before the park opens if there is no agreement on extending the license contract, lawyers for the companies said in court.  The park’s original owners had paid $2.5 million annually to use the brand.

One official also stated that patrons should be happier with the ticket prices offered, referring to the backlash against the original owners charging $50 per ticket to enter the park.

FPI MB Entertainment LLC closed on the $25 million sale Thursday afternoon in Wilmington, Del., said park spokeswoman Erin Barrett with Brandon Advertising and Public Relations.

No details have been released yet if Hard Rock Cafe International has reached an agreement with the new owners to keep the naming rights.
