News: Children’s fair ride topples, 6 hurt

Posted Saturday, April 18th, 2009 at 5:55 pm by Steven

A children’s amusement ride in the Kiddyland area of the Puyallup Spring Fair in Puyallup, Wash. toppled over Friday evening, injuring 5 children and 1 adult, with one child apparently suffering a serious leg injury.

Fourteen children were riding the Lolli Swings ride when it toppled around 6:40pm.  All of the injured were taken to area hospitals.  Details about their injuries or conditions were not revealed by the hospitals, citing privacy laws.

The ride had passed state inspection Wednesday, and an investigation is currently under way.  Fair representative Karen LaFlamme noted that its possible that rain-soaked ground contributed to the accident.

Comments:

  1. How did they miss this during inspections?!

P.S. - Can you please fix the last paragraph as it is grammatically wrong.

  2. Katie's Avatar Katie says:

I don't see anything wrong with the last paragraph. It makes perfect sense.

Also, I am sorry to see anyone get hurt on a ride. The paper I saw it from looked like the ride was on concrete, not dirt. Can anyone confirm or deny that part of it?

  3. The errors are in the second paragraph now since the last paragraph was added after my post.

  4. Steven's Avatar Steven says:

    Problem fixed.

Ride inspections don't take into account future weather events.

  5. Ah, much better. Sorry I was a pest about it. I've returned to school recently and all I've done for the last year was write papers and I criticize everything now...

  6. cyberwolf57's Avatar cyberwolf57 says:

Not everyone is a spelling major and I don't think it's fair to criticize if someone spells something wrong. Deal with it or get off the sitte!!

  7. Andrew P's Avatar Andrew P says:

Well Steven, perhaps they should. Didn't Katrina teach us anything?

I agree and disagree, cyberwolf, but I think major instances are when these things should be spoken of.

  8. Unfortunate to hear. Why does it always seem like the swingers are the ones that have these problems?
