DOSWELL, VA. — Summer is upon us and Kings Dominion is turning up the heat with the Dominator, the World’s longest floorless roller coaster and 13 additional white-knuckle scream machines. As Virginia’s only Two-In-One amusement park and waterpark, Kings Dominion has more rides, slides and attractions for families looking for fun close to home. Daily park operation starts on Saturday, May 23, bringing with it a holiday weekend packed with excitement.
Looking for the best place to be on a hot day in the Mid-Atlantic, WaterWorks waterpark is the coolest place to be when the temperature gauge goes up! Kings Dominion’s 20-acre waterpark opens for the season on Saturday, May 23, from the relaxing lazy river to the thrills of the Tornado, WaterWorks is the place for fun that’s all wet. Admission to WaterWorks is included free with park admission.
Funnel cakes are one of guests’ favorite park treats and on Saturday May 23, the finest competitive eaters on planet Earth will gather for a “World Funnel Cake Eating Championship.” Fifteen Major League Eaters from across the country will test their jaw strength and stomach capacity as they battle for the funnel cake eating world record and $5,000 in cash prizes.
Joey Chestnut, who is ranked number one in the world by Major League Eating, will face off against his archrival – Pat “Deep Dish” Bertoletti, a mohawked chef from Chicago. Ranked number two in the world, Bertoletti beat Chestnut earlier this year at a St. Patrick’s Day corned beef eating contest. Nipping at their heels will be “Humble” Bob Shoudt (ranked #4) of Royersford, PA, Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas (ranked #6) of Alexandria, VA, and Hall “Allujah” Hunt, a faith-based eater out of Jacksonville who prays before and after each of his eating performances.
“Funnel cakes are perennial favorites at American festivals, fairs and theme parks,” said Rich Shea, president of Major League Eating. “So it is altogether appropriate and necessary really, for us to determine, who is the world’s best funnel cake eater at Kings Dominion on May 23rd.”
Fasten your seatbelts and hold on, Kings Dominion not only has the hottest roller coaster collection in the Mid-Atlantic, but will play host to a “herd” of the hottest Ford Mustangs in the Region. Sponsored by Stangs ‘R’ Us of Dunn, NC, hundreds of galloping Mustangs will thunder into Doswell, VA to show off their polished and gleaming American Muscle cars on Saturday May 23.
