For the past several weeks the city of Toronto has been essentially shut down due to a strike by the city’s workers. Most people are only focusing on the massive amounts of garbage piling up in city parks, and parking lots, designated as temporary dump sites, but many seem to forget about Centreville amusement park on Toronto’s Centre Island.
Centreville is only accessible by ferry, a service run by the city, leaving the park all but deserted. Many of the park’s student employees have been out of a job since the strike began, leaving them with no means of making any money for the upcoming school year. The park is taking a huge hit from the lack of visitors since it is only open 102 days a year, and have stated that so far they have lost $3 million in revenue.
Toronto city mayor David Miller has said that the city will not step in to help the park beyond trying to end the strike. The park has said that despite the strike, they will try to open with or without city help. Union officials, however, have stated that they will picket any attempt to ferry people to the island and may even picket outside the park’s gates, slowing the intake of guests.

Congratulations - a first story I believe? Now with the story: I think the whole situation stinks. It does literally.
