News: Renovation of The Texas Giant begins with demolition

Texas Giant LogoToday the demolition of the Texas Giant at Six Flags over Texas began, a process to start the year long renovation of the ride that is.

At the order of Bugs Bunny, a bulldozer at the park began pulling at the Texas Giant structure, bringing down a section of support structure beams.

A $10 million renovation of wooden coaster began that will have the ride closed the duration of the 2010 season.  It will debut in 2011 improved for the 50th anniversary of the Six Flags over Texas, the original Six Flags park.  The entire Six Flags chain will also celebrate the anniversary.

Park president Steve Martindale noted that most of the ride’s structure would remain intact.  As much as 15 percent of the existing configuration would only change it was stated.  Among the most prominent changes to the ride would be to the track and trains.  Martindale promised the ride would return steeper and faster with even some special effects.

The Texas Giant debuted in 1990.
